getEdited - SELECT

Has anyone ordered something like a class from Craftsy lately? I was totally surprised when, in order to pay with Paypal, one has to agree to have future automatic authorization. No opt out option available

I am sad. I would have liked to order a couple of more classes, but refuse to get pushed to agree to something that is not necessary. Also I had no choice how I wanted to pay for it within Papypal, like checking account, or choice of credit card. I like PayPal because it eliminates having my credit card info all over the internet.

I agree with you. I don't like the way they have set it up, I prefer to select which account my money is taken from. Maybe this a way to make us have a money account with in PayPal

Carol it is not Paypal. It is CRAFTSY that requires that.

after reading the comments posted below I have to say that I order from the Missouri Star Quilt Co & have for over a year @least & this is how they do it. Every time I order something new & use paypal the information is saved for their site only & it is quick & easy to use. I have not had any issues with them & I have read their privacy policy & they do not share my information with any third parties. Just my humble bit

I place my order & approve the paypal option & rather then it sending me straight to my paypal account the transaction is complete & I get an email receipt moments later

You are right and that is why I do not purchase from them either much and if I do I will go into my preferences and delete the authorization. The whole idea of Paypal is not to have your info everywhere. I am not saying they will share it. It is just another site that can be hacked into and the info being taken. The other issue is that if I paid lets say with my checking account (I do that sometimes for small purchases to save the vendor money) the next time it automatically will be taken from there again. I like to choose each time with what I pay, In Caftys case it states it will be taken from Paypal money (I do no use), then your checking account, after that from Credit Card,in that order. No choice there at all. My last purchase was automatically taken out of my checking account. I was pretty startled. Just a heads up.

Well, the main reason to have Paypal is to not have your credit info spread across multiple sites - so if they save your Paypal info (account and password) it's then on another site that *could* be hacked. I prefer it just on the one and not spread across multiple domains.

I won't be ordering any classes from them because of this. I have purchased some in the past.

This must be something new?? I have purchased before and I don't remember this...but then it has been a while so they may have changed many things.

I have too. A couple of weeks ago. This is totally new and they loose my business. When I called them about it they said that there is a opt out button. There is not. However they cancelled the pre-approved future payments on their end. Paypal gave me the number to contact them. The problem is that you can not order anything and pay with Paypal unless you agree.

That is so strange since most Craftsy items are one time payments -- aren't they?

crafter2243 by crafter2243 20 May 2015

Not in my case. I always just straight out purchased it but it was always classes.

Maybe it's a Paypal thing rather than a Craftsy thing? The company is splitting from eBay, so it could be making some changes.

crafter2243 by crafter2243 21 May 2015

No it is not a Paypal thing. Here is part of the answer I received from Craftsy:

I wanted to touch base with you after our call this morning regarding PayPal and the messaging you now see on our site. I just wanted to make sure you are comfortable! Basically, we just made some improvement to our checkout process, one of which allows you to checkout through PayPal without leaving our site. Previously, you were taken away from Craftsy and to PayPal for those purchases. Agreeing to “preapprove” future purchases simply allows you to “save” your PayPal info on Craftsy so you don’t need to re-enter it again in the future.

pennyhal2 by pennyhal2 21 May 2015

Ok. I'm still confused. What does "pre-approved" mean? Does it simply mean you don't have to enter your credit info? or if you put something in your basket you have automatically purchased it, or Craftsy saves your credit card info as well as PayPal?

crafter2243 by crafter2243 21 May 2015

It means after you agreed to be pre-approved for Paypal and you purchase something, they have all the info and you do not need to go to Paypal and approve it. I do not know what they would do if your were to purchase with a credit card without Paypal.

crafter2243 by crafter2243 21 May 2015

It would mean that it will be automatically taken out of my checking account (that is what happened) if you were to agree since I do not have Paypal balance or credit.

This is what it states and you would agree to.

PayPal will first use your PayPal balance to pay for your purchase. If that doesn’t cover your total, your bank account, PayPal Credit, debit card, credit card, and/or eCheck will be used IN THAT ORDER.

I capitalized the last three words.
