Get some muslin material and try the pattern first. Any adjustments can be made with the muslin and then the final product will be easier for her to complete.
I wish you both the best of luck with this & Look forward to seeing what beautiful things you create together. ~hugs~
I use burda all the time.Get yourself a Tracingwheel, put Butcherpaper or brown Packingpaper under the Pattern, trace then cut out after adjusting for your Size.Have Fun hugs Ursula
I have not used a Burda pattern in years. Measure carefully trace off and there you go. Good luck.
Thank you everyone. I was thinking of doing a test run myself with the pattern to check the fit and look for any tricky parts. The fabric she chose is a crepe and will need to be lined. Not quite what I would have chosen as a first. I always trace the pattern off on multi sized ones so I am ok there.
I will certainly post pictures of when it is done. She lives a distance away so probably in a months time we will get going.
here in Germany I love Burda pattern because they normally fit very well and the sewing instruction is easy to understand. just check your measurements and choose the size accordingly. good luch let us see your result!
Hi. I love Burda patterns. When I buy any multi sized pattern I trace it out onto tissue paper so I can then use the pattern again in a different size. Brilliant for using with children. I remember the first garment that I made, I chose something that was difficult for my lack of experience but with help I was hooked and have not stopped making all sorts of clothing since. Passing your skills on to your grand daughter will be brilliant for her and I am sure that you will be there to help when help is needed
I used these patterns years ago and I was happy with the results. With any pattern if you measure correctly, like the old saying goes measure twice and cut once, you should be fine. You must also trace the correct color line for each piece it's looks like a road map, once your eye gets used to this it's fine. I learned to make it in a cheap muslin and fit the garment before cutting your expensive fabric, it takes longer but this is the correct way to do this. I still do this today when I sew for others.
The multi sized patterns now have the seam allowances added like other brands. The pattern books have charts of measurements in both metric & imperial measures at the back .Just pick the size that fits your measurements. You will have to either trace out your size or cut up the pattern which means it will be only your size.I like Burda patterns but like all patterns some adjustments May need to be made because our bodies not perfect
I have not used Burda in years. At one time they were patterns without the 5/8 inch seam allowance. You cut each peace with adding the seam allowance. So read the instructions very carefully. Also, you might try laying out something that fits her and put the patter pieces on top and compare. If you don' t cut it to small you should be OK . Kay
Barbara, I made myself a Burda baby doll (underbreast) bodiced dress, I could have easily for comfort gone the next 1 size up. Just a thought...Only wore the dress once. Shame as i loved the fabric. Hmmm thinking recycle ......
