Major fail this morning, folks........I have been asked to embroider on 25 umbrellas, which I have never before attempted.........I had an old one that I tested on with a new design of mine and one of the spines broke....it is the type of umbrella that the material is stitched onto the spines, so I will have to tell her I need umbrellas that I can take the material off one of the spines...the design stitched beautifully (although I had to reduce it 40%, so I will restitch the design in it's original size and color and reshow it......will scour the internet later for umbrellas that have caps on the spines....

That is the way to go. You will be amazed at how easy it is to hoop once you take 2-3 off the spine. Nice job!

I love your design. You are a very ingenious person to use a tear away, stabilisator, then to spray it with scotch guard to protect it. Thank you for sharing. Amitiés de France.

I don't understand why you called this a fail. It's very cute and it sounds like you learned a lot. Sounds like a major success to me. Your design is fabulous as usual.

I did umbrellas and it was ones I had to sew it back together. I have gotten avoid hand sewing needleuseitis. I know I am not only one out there that has this condition. Sometimes I manage with moans and other times I moan even thinking of using of needle. I only did about 6 of them so your right doing fab by finding the kind to remove.

Thanks, Bev, I did read this earlier today, but I wanted to try it without having to take it partially apart and sewing it back together......the client is looking for umbrella's with the tips that allow you to remove a panel.......

What was your stabilizer and what will you use for water-proofing that area? It's a cute design.

I used tear away, and it tore away very cleanly....I would spray it with scotch guard to protect it.....

I have been told before that you can stitch on umbrellas, but I don't think I want to after reading this! You're so brave.

It stitches great, it is just needing the right type of spines so that one can remove the panel being stitched on.....glad I used an old umbrella to test on!!

That is a great design. Can you stitch any closer to the outside edge of the umbrella? Some of my umbrellas have the ribs hand (apparently) sewn to the fabric.

I could have clipped the material off the metal spine, but I don't want to have to do that with 25 of them, so that is why I tried it with the fabric in tact.....I spent an hour this morning just figuring out how to hoop the darn thing..Ugh!
