I use a regular needle 80/12 and just a medium tear away in the hoop. I lay the vinyl on top but have started taping it down on all sides. And I never touch the tension. You can slow your machine down but I don't even do that .
What do you put on the back? I tried felt but the more I rubbed it, it gave off fibers. Hugs.
Step 1. hoop stabilizer
Step 2. run placement stitch {1}
Step 3. place fabric, felt or vinyl
Step 4. run tack down stitch {2}
Step 5. *trim jumps (if any)
Step 6. run design stitch/es {3-4}
Step 7. *trim jumps (if any)
Step 8. float fabric, felt or vinyl under hoop
Step 9. run final stitch {5}
use vinyl instead of felt, it gives it a nicer weight and feel
Thank you, I wasn't fond of the felt and you confirmed my idea to use the vinyl on the back.
This is for Smokey-I used a size 16 in the Kam snap . I had
picked up a zip lock bag with the snap attachement and lots
of snaps. You use a hammer to attache. Easy on the hands.
I did push down the long snap into the vinyl and used the
back of a knife to go in between the thongs of the snap. I
looked at the size 20 and it was too big to fit on the key
fob I had made from basketkase. olds/Maureen
PS-I had gotten the Kam snaps at Goodwill. I had them for a year of more-just waiting for the right project.olds/Maureen
I knew Bev could help with that. I haven't made any myself but have seen the ones others are making. I was wondering about the vinyl...do you have to change thread tension to stitch vinyl? what size needle? Do you need stabilizer, if so what kind? etc. etc
I use the same needle as usual - I usually float an extra piece of tear away under the design.
I did a test on making one, standard emb needle and one layer of tearaway and they came out great except I needed to use the same color of thread in my bobbin for the final stitching. Hugs
