I use either my gathering foot or I pleat a serge across the top that way they stay nice and flat.. or you could turn around 3 times and hang you tongue to the left that also works (you know if your tongue sticks out the right way everything works better).. good luck..
How accurate you have described what we all have done when working on a challenge. Can just see it. Sometimes I get chapped lips.
I fold and pleat the towel measure to fit the topper and baste. Good luck!
I find the center - gather it with a basting stitch and pin and stitch. The last one I did was very full so this step was more difficult than usual! Good luck!!
Bev, I've just gathered them, pinned together and do a test hang up. works for me. :)
What kind of toppers are you using? When I do mine -- I gather the towel first (measure it to the topper) and if it is a thick towel I stitch over the gathers (with a long stitch) to keep the gathers in place and even.
It can be one of the most challenging parts of the towel.
the ones where you put the towel in the middle and then hang them on your oven door. I won't let it defeat me. sometimes you just need to walk away and come back another time
cut it in half. I think I need to make the topper a bit wider and it will fit better
I am with you on the walking away part, though sometimes it is weeks before I get back if at all.
Gather it about 3/4 inch from the top. Add more towel than you "need" inside the topper. Make your stitch to add the towel top the topper a basting stitch. Check the towel for evenness and make sure the whole thing will hang straight and look straight. Then stitch near the basting stitch and remove the basting stitch.
