While out @ camp I brought my travel sewing machine (Jem Gold) to do the tablecloths & it became obvious very quickly that I needed a thread catcher. I had minimal supplies so this became a challenge. Inside my travel case I had a few scraps of material but nothing much so I used what I had to make this red bit for the pin cushion is filled with long grain rice & batting. The bottom fabric is very old lol & I was short a wee bit for the casing so I added a scrap of brown that I found tucked in the crack lol. The only thread I brought was an all purpose cream so it is not the right colour to use but it does the job. Next I had to figure out what to use to put inside the casing & I searched my hubs tool box & discovered he had some zip ties so I zipped 2 together & voila. It is amazing what we can do in a pinch lol.

Another friend of mine (not my cousin) has gone through chemo & radiation & has had a full mastectomy & she is recovering well but she has terrible pain in her shin especially while resting so I made this hot pad with ties so she can tie it around her leg. You pop this into the microwave for 30 secs & it is ready to use. I hope that it helps ease some of her pain. I divided it into 3 sections so as to even out the heat distribution.

Thanks for showing us that treasures can come out of rejects or left-overs. Waste not want not has been hammered into us from birth, I think. Your creativity and ingenuity is awesome!

You rock! You definitely made a gem out of scraps. That is a good idea to add scraps to our list of things we need while traveling or camping. You are friend who is definitely spreading comfort and warmth to someone in pain. I know she will be sending many a blessing your way for this heat pack.

Nice project and great thinking--do we all scrounge for scraps? I know I keep all mine but to have them while traveling? Great job, I say!!! Your breast cancer friend will so thank you for the other project. I, too, am a breast cancer survivor of 24 years!!!!!! I know when something feels good when you hurt. If she doesn't think to thank you, the thank you's are in her heart.

She will thank me of that I am sure. It feels good to have heat where it hurts so this will help. I am glad that you are hear to say so 24 years is wonderful! The scraps I had were in the rolling case for the machine otherwise I would have had none. Thank you very much ~hugs~
