Ok Hubs came along & asked me what I was waiting for (me trying to figure out the perfect placement making paper template all that work) he grabbed my piece that I cut out & folded it in half twice & said there's your center piece put the biggest hoop in the middle right there so I did & it stitched perfectly smartie pants! I have to say I held my breath I was nervous it would pop out of the hoop but it was really fine I did slow my machine down too & this is a ripple design that I enlarged quite a bit. the first picture shows the underside where this will go & you can see if has to be a straight edge @ the bottom & the velcro on either side to hold it in place works perfect to. I didn't take a picture of it on the tire since it was too dark to get a good shot with my cell phone but it fits perfectly & hubs is really pleased with it. The heat will take the ripple out of the cover so not worried about the wee pucker @ all. A big thank you to all who tried to give me good advice. I think the next one will have our last name on it if I can do it in a stitch that is like a ripple too.....otherwise it might be too dense to do our name?

I've never seen a more well dressed tire wheel cover when parked--only rolling down the highway on their spare---You have done an exceptional job on dressing those wheels! Gotta make the hubby's happy some of the time!!!

Sometimes it is hard to see the forest for the trees - meaning things are obvious to some and not to others.
Cute design.

Husband's can be so smart (irritatingly so at times for me!) but they sure come in handy. You are going to start a new trend at the campgrounds.

We all need a little boost up sometimes to get us past the "analysis paralysis". Your hubs was just trying to to that! Covers came out perfectly, so worked out well in the end. Nice job.... good to have "pleased" hubs! -Sharon

Looks good. The pic with the cover on the tire looks great. You could have each tire with a different season or holiday. Just joking. Glad you tried it and that your hub is happy.

Well I'm glad to see your husband and me think the same. I suggested you do that as well, just fold the piece in half and then again so you get a centre point. I've only just come back on and saw your question re my answer about hooping, sorry. I've never sewn with vinyl, but I think I'd use a self adhesive type of stabiliser and not press the hoop down as it might mark the vinyl, so just use a basting stitch to hold the fabric down. Either way, whatever you did it looks wonderful. Well done, love Chris

a basting stitch will leave holes in the vinyl.

pldc by pldc 26 Jul 2015

yes a basting stitch would leave holes so I hooped it & it worked well. thank you Chris & Jerrilyn ~hugs~

I wonder how this embroidery will stand up in the rain and snow later in the season. Maybe spray some scotchgard or water repellant on it

I had to laugh when I read about your hubby finding the solution so quickly. I think it is in the genes of males. Your did a beautiful job on the tire cover and the design is perfect. I am NOT showing this to my husband . hehe

Okay, I agree, but sometimes this male genius thing results in a disastrous failure, about which they will not talk!

Don't you just love our hubbies and sons for that matter. We agonise for days trying to think things through the correct way example step 1 through to step 12 and they come up with something so simple and it works.
