Topiaries are truly a work of art, beyond my skill level. Hats off to anyone who can 'visualize' the form in a bush or tree. It's like an artist 'seeing' an image inside a block of granite and giving it birth. Thank God for diversity in creativity.
We have a garden full of topiary since my husband retired after 37 years in the Military , he cant get over everything has to be neat and in order , he would spit polish everything to with in an inch of its life he could , he loves it when people stop and ask him question in the garden . Some husbands have fast cars, fishing, camping mine just loves his garden .
In USA there is fabulous topiary at some resorts including DIsney. There was a yard near me where someone seemed to be worked toward an elephant, but then they moved and the new person sheared it back to "normal". In a little house way out in rural Alabama there is a front yard of all spaceship-shaped topiary. Not sure I want to knock on that door to ask...
Choo, choo train - lovely. We also have topiaries in Germany - especially in big and/or public gardens.
Topiaries also play a role in "Shining" (Book by Stephen King)
if I remember correctly.
Could be a tourist attraction, I do hope the new owners keep it trimmed. G
Wonderful Topiary. An old local Maltese gentleman had a great garden he shape 2 of his shrubs as a table and a chair. My husband says I can have what ever I like as long as it's square or rectangular. lol. Marian
Wonder if the owner is a train lover?
You can buy wire animal or shape frames & then plant small leaf plants inside & trim so the plants fill out the frame.Easy way to create topiary.
When I saw this last week, the house was empty. New owners moved in at the weekend. I hope they keep the train!
The little country township 15 minutes from where we live here in Tasmania, Australia is know as the Town of Topiary. They hold competitions for the best Topiary tree. On the drive to our capital city Hobart someone started cutting animals from trees along the highway years ago. it was great way to entertain the children on the long trip. Brings back memories. Hugs
This is about 90 miles south of me, or 145 Kilometers. It's a beautiful garden.
I didn't get to see this big fellow, as he was on a limited engagement, but the entire garden with many topiaries are magnificent.
Atlanta has many outdoor treasures to choose from, but none greater than our Botanical Gardens. Whether you visit limited engagements like the topiary, or view the annual Christmas Light display in December, or tour the edible garden during its height in July, don’t let a season go by without visiting.

Now that is a fun hedge! There is some topiary done here, mostly the spiral thingies at both sides of a garden path. A nearby enthusiast has some glorious peacocks. I only have a lopsided pyramid for some reason the base looks rather irregular and the top leans to one side, but I keep trying...
