My sewing/craft room cum study slowly but surely filled up with bags and boxes holding knitting yarn, fabric, scraps, shirts to be recycled, paperwork to such an extend I could hardly move or reach a cupboard. Not any more. Yesterday and today I cleared out, rearranged (hope I know I remember what went where, but I labelled most of it).

It's a joy to sew there again.

The hall, however, resembles a battle field. Visitors can only enter by the back door, or sideways.

I need to unclutter and organize my sewing room, too! I know I would enjoy stitching much more, and get less frustrated with too much stuff in my "space"!! LOL Glad you got yours done!!

Oh my word!!....I just love you people here. I have two sewing rooms..one is supposed to be the "guest room" and I recently cleaned it enough for company....but now all that stuff is in the other sewing room piled high in labeled boxes. It's good to know that it is a common problem amongst crafty sewers.

I need to do the same thing Martine. People keep bringing me fabric(mind you I'm not complaining about that) but cannot get it sewn up fast enough and lately I feel exhausted all the time.. I so need to get it all washed and sorted. I like my work area to be free from clutter but not so lately. Congratulations to you on getting it sorted out/Lillian

keep talking to me Martine...I need the inspiration to do exactly the same as you've done and I think it's is going to take 2 days as well.

This made me smile and sigh as I thought I have everything in this room tightly put together in it's place in my room if I have to take this room apart. I already know it will turn into 3 full rooms as it would leave this room. Kinda of like taking a girdle off it will just fall everywhere. I laughed as I just bought some little drawers and bigger to put the snaps, grommets, metal snaps in. Hubby said you don't got no where to put that in there. I said check on in in five mins I already figured it out. He found out I did. I would not want my stuff to meet up with man on a mission. This is my clubhouse I tell him. I do break down and dig into baskets, drawers etc every so often for a memory enhancer. Keeps my mind sharp lol.

There is a mammoth task ahead of me also, we are going to have new carpets through out the whole house. When you have lived in a somewhat organised sewing room for a long time, this will be my worst nightmare. I think this will take me weeks to get over and sewing shall have to wait for some time. I am glad that you are well on the way to being organised, and in time your hallway will not look like a battlefield. Good luck. They say things are meant to be challenging and not easy. So true. Sandra.

i only have carpet in the bed room areas and I have need new carpet for years and I always think of the nightmare to to prepare for it and dismissed the new carpet. However I did have my hardwood floors refinished a few years ago and about had a nervous brake down as the house had to be vacated. Kay

Nothing is ever perfect all the time, but it is always a great feeling when one area is done. :-)

This had me in stitches. I can so identify. There is always one area in my house that needs straightening out because I move things from one place to the others while organizing. Mostly it is the garage. My craft room has a supply of the many hobbies I enjoy. Lots and lots of drawers which I thought would help but I find myself opening numerous ones before getting to the one I need. Glad you have your sewing/craft room organized. The hallway will get straightened out too. :-)

Well done! We've emptied 7 bookcases today ready for the decorator. My sewing room is the only place which doesn't have a couple of piles.

Trouble with books is you can stop glancing through them and rediscovering the most interesting titbits - at least I can't. Went through a couple of much loved embroidery books until my husband told me to 'do something don't just stand there', just when I got lost in "Souvenir de ma Jeunesse", a sampler of all sorts of embroidery techniques, but at least I now know exactly where it is.

mops by mops 04 Aug 2015

And of course the trouble is you can NOT stop .. etc

Yeah for you! I empathize. Since the flooding, my house feels like a rubics cube that I move pieces around to get to what I need.

Love the rubic's cube comparison. I hope all your rooms will dry out and be habitable soon!

chenille by chenille 04 Aug 2015

Me too! My room is finally almost there...but I can at least work in it now. Hubby's working at the library.....we have so many books and like mops says it is so easy to get distracted!

Woo Hoo, another sewing room success!! Isn't it amazing the 'stuff" we can accumulate.......I always think I need and will use everything and we know that is not the case!! Congrats on your clean out......the hall will get there, too........

I'll have to be quick otherwise hubby moves it into the loft.

cfidl by cfidl 04 Aug 2015

Better the loft than the trash, which is where my hubby likes to send things.

Mine has thrown out things we need , now I inspect the pile before its binned. He often doesn't know what something is used for, therefore its not wanted

Well your hall may look like a battlefield, but your sanctuary is once again peaceful. We have to pick our battles carefully.💪🏻

We do indeed, and as the weather was too wet for my hubby to "play" outside he helped me move the lot, out of the room and after even hoovering for me moved the heavier stuff back in. It's amazing how heavy a box with sewing magazines can be.

chenille by chenille 04 Aug 2015

Oh yes those dreaded magazines.......!!

killiecrankie by killiecrankie 05 Aug 2015

Use to have subscriptions to craft magazines because it was cheaper & they arrived in your letter box.Now I look before I buy & only 3 or 4 a year get to come home with me because I know that I will make that item.Borrow magazines from the library instead.
Yes they are heavy, have a wine carton of magazines from the 70's to take to the Salvos, just the thought of carrying them there ,means they are still in the garage.

I know the feeling when I have cleaned up, I always have to search in the beginning... Did you find some stuff you had forgotten you had it?
Good luck in the battle field :)

I always find one or two "missing" items that I had wondered where they went...

mops by mops 04 Aug 2015

I found 6 pens, lots of pins, 1 needle, two things I know I had but had forgotten where I'd stored them.
