I just updated to windows 10 and when I go to download designs it does not allow me to SAVE AS and place the designs in organized files as I would like to. Instead, it just saves everything to DOWNLOADS. Other than dragging it from downloads to the correct file, is there a way to save designs in the right place?

I posted below but I just started my own thread , not being able to find this post at first..I moved it here to try to keep some of our haunting questions together...I have been trying to figure out 'just' where to post this. I follow the info on the new Win 10 os somewhat. I know pcworld.com has a lot of information on it if you check in the software section. I received this in my emails today from another site. http://geek.ng/2015/08/still-on-w... Read # 7 carefully. I am curious just what the plans are after a year. And there is also http://windows.microsoft.com/en-u... for additional information. I like the Win 10 os. It seems a slight bit slower on my computer then Win 7 but there are so many things that make my computer run smoother that the pro's outweigh the cons. Does anyone else have any comments about the Win 10 os? Are we all going to be caught in a catch 22 in a year? As to reply to the question at hand. I am guessing it depends on what browser you use. as to the 'save as' convenience. When helping one another we may need to remind one another of what browser we are using 'that works' for what we do. I ended up moving my MACHINE EMBROIDERY file in my 'downloads' file for ease in organizing the designs. But there has to be an easier and better way.

Would have been better posted under Chat instead of embroidery since you asked.

In your Web browser go to Tools and select Options. then select Applications. Each file type then has a drop down box that you can choose where that file type goes.

You might want to check with Microsoft. I just upgraded to Windows 10 and I still get the save as option when I save designs.

Not a solution, but you could put shortcuts to your most-used folders into your Downloads folder. That would make re-filing easier.

The problem I am having is with my scanner. It won't work, will not open up and scan. I just bought it a couple months ago. I've uninstalled the software several times, but not matter what I do it will not acknowledge and open the scanner software.

My son worked on it and thinks it is a incompatibility with my system mechanic software that monitors and scans my computer for secirity.

Does anyone have any tips to help me. I am so frustrated. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Did you look at the scanner company's website to see if there's been an upgrade to their software?

I read at the MS site that you might have to go to maker of your hardware, & software to update the driver. I'm now having trouble with my Embrilliance Thumbnailer software. Not critical right now as I am learning 10 & might return to previous OS...will see.

I found the same problem. My "Save As" choice has disappeared!
Luckily, I saw where the files went so I moved them to the correct location.
I think that is the important thing -- knowing WHERE they were saved.
Guess that is something we need to tell the people at Microsoft that is something we like to have.
Every upgrade of software seems to mix things up or delete or move things that we like to use all the time.
Happy downloading.

Well, I just couldn't figure it out. When I went on the microsoft website, there were so many people complaining I wondered if the company had not finished developing this software and were waiting for the public to use it for free and then state where the bugs were. So I ended up going into settings, recovery, and then it gave me the option of going back to windows 8.1. It said you could go back to 8.1 free for a month, but you could start up windows 10 later. As far as I could tell, windows 10 is extremely complicated and they are trying to somehow have phones and xbox games on the same platform and I get lost in too much technology. Give the the easy stuff....

you should be able to direct where you want the downloads, in proparties on your net page

My computer recently crashed, and rather than upgrading all the time with windows upgrades i bought an apple computer. So far this too only downloads to it's own download folder, i have found this okay to use, and just then distribute to various named folders after sometimes having to convert some downloads to the format for my elna xplore embroidery machine. It is time consuming but works well for me. I hope you can eventually organise your files the way you want. Good luck. Sandra.

I have downloaded and started using win 10-I had the same issues in win 7 as to where the downloaded drop down menu file goes after one of the 'helpful updates'. I am using Chrome as my default browser and added an extension (I believe it is 'download plus) where the files show as they are downloaded, so you can click on the bubble and have them show in the downloads folder and there you can 'click' and go in and pick up that design (or series) and put them in the appropriate folder. The only ones you need to do this with are the ones with the drop down menu, all the others you can right click and put in the appropriate folder. Or you can just have them go to the 'downloads' file as a default.

I kept my old computer because of the folder display of photos/designs is perfect for me. I don't have to open a folder to see what's in it. I have a Win7 for online use. I hate touch screens or big color blocks on my desktop. I might go to a different operating program than Windows, but right now I don't need one. I'm hoping to see more posts about Win 10 as I'm sure they'll stop supporting Win 7 to force people to buy new software.

Windows 10 is good and a free upgrade for my computer. When I first went to download a design it asked where and how I wanted it to be opened and saved.

Can you see your designs with thumb.nailer?

What browser are you using? There is usually a setting that you have to change in your browser settings. It can often be hidden, so I usually Google 'how to change download location'. I have not downloaded Windows 10 yet, will wait for about 6 months to make sure everything is working before I dip my foot in. I also want to make sure Windows 10 works with all my programs.
