UPDATE! I found the 'power ' just now...it was not in the line up last night. Also, there is a dif look to the screen...maybe I will like it when I learn my way around.

Windows 10 just got on my last nerve! I downloaded and installed on my Win 7 Pro today. All the lace and ruffles you'd ever want...BUT...I had loads of problems getting it to rake commands. Frustrated with it, I could never find anywhere..the "turn off" button, nor the "sleep" mode. My computer is the 'all-in-one' model and the power button is on the screen. Well, I had to force a shutdown to turn it off. Does anyone know where they put the button that used to be in START for shutting down? Guess I'll be using my old XP box for a while longer, or maybe I'll find a tall bldg and jump off'

Thanks, Mechille--I had viewed a couple of videos..one was mailed to me by MS with notification of my Win10 reservation. The videos did not cover very much other than the installed apps. I played around with the program yesterday evening--looking around to see what what was there. I did turn off the camera because I have no use for that; I've no use for Skype...and probably will do a lot more customization. But meantime, while learning, I am staying with this XP desktop.

Pheeew, glad it finally showed up...I am waiting a bit before upgrading to Windows 10...the thing I don't like are the automatic updates...and you have no control over them...at lease in Windows 8.1 you can choose what and when to update...good luck and keep us posted on your progress with it...

I think that when you first update not everything is there. I had to do a lot of reboots at the beginning and sometimes when logging on it takes an unusual long time before computer gets going. I believe that it is continuously being updated, which may account for the fact, that last night you did not have the power button. Now after a week, removing a lot of things I do not need, everything is running smoothly.

Yes, I noticed this morning the screen stayed dark for longer than my old XP...was beginning to think it would never greet me. You know, it opens with "hello (your name). Perfect example of an intruder in your system--that info was not entered by me. A little surprising! It is sleeping right now until I can carve a bit of sit down time. We've hung 2 replacement fans today, and laundry is being done. Wonderful assistance on this board--I knew I'd get help!

click the window button, on the bottom left hand side you should have
File explorer
Settings
Power
All apps
Click power, you should get a menu with Sleep, shutdown and restart.

Yes, I just found it...was not there when I did forced shutdown...but screen is different this morning. Except for some apps I won't be using, it looks do-able. I saw at start up, a choice to return to prev system, but I'm going to forge ahead w/10. Thx for all the helpful advice'

I added a link below that might you. My keyboard has a start menu button, so I press that to open the menu, then I click power (same as crafter2243). I haven't had Windows 10 for very long, but it seems okay to me. My biggest peeve is that the right-click menu for Embird (Iconizer) is unreadable now -- all the text is pushed to the far right. Oh well... there's always something... ;-)

Thank you for the link--however, I never saw "power button" anywhere last night--just the one that is on the "all in one" monitor. You've prob guessed I am using XP this A.M. Today, I will spend more time than I have trying to figure this new animal out. Was in screaming mode when I posted last night. I saw a lot of junk that I will be getting rid of.(like Skype-which I will never use!) I appreciate so many responses. OH, the link noted the info was for Windows 8, 8.1...mine is 7 pro. Would that make a difference? Might have to yell for microsoft support.

I don't know if version 7 vs 8 makes any difference. :-/ BUT! I found this program and thought it might be helpful for you:

I haven't tried it, but I use & like their Fences program. Best of luck! :-)

Oops, I guess the program isn't so useful to you now -- LOL! Well, if you have to upgrade to version 10 again, it's an option. :-)

Please don't any of you JUMP...throw the computers off the buildings...we can't afford to loose any of you. Sorry you are having such trouble with this version. I haven't tried it as I'm terrified after reading all the woes on this site.

haha--I had already threatened to throw the Win 7 pro into the dumpster...even tried to give it to my son, but he prefers his 7 home. What upset me so much was that I ordered 32bit processor so my old emb software would be compatible...the computer sat in box for 4 mos. before I began to set it up. Discovered that I had received 64bit and nothing worked in it. Even my mail server could not set up mail program. Felt it was useless to complain to seller at that late date. So I've been grumbling and saying bad words a lot lately. Got so angry I bought another 7--ultimate--with 32 bit. Haven't connected yet, BUT all programs installed!

Click on the window sign on the left hand corner and then "power" in my case on the bottom. Let me know if this helped.
Please no jumping from tall buildings...... :-)

I wore out the 'window' sign -almost- but all I get is list of apps.

For Windows 10 its click on window icon on taskbar, then power, & then shutdown. Windows 10 is getting on my nerves also. I can't get it to activate. Since I was having problems with windows update, Dell Computer installed a new copy of windows 10 instead of updating so now I'm having to reinstall all my applications. I also had apps on the start window that I had organized. Of course now that's all gone. Microsoft gets on my last nerve. Instead of fixing problems & making improvements they change the look of it. So frustrating.

I am now sorry I installed this 10...but kept hearing that support would soon be stopped for 7 and 8. My window icon only shows apps--saw no "power" at all. Thos "last nerves" can get you really upset, can't they?
