I hope I can explain this easily. I had so much trouble with these and the. Had a lightbulb moment. I put a pin at the top seams of the corner - making sure I have the extra very neatly matching. Take your ruler and line up one of the horizontal lines with the base of the side opposite of where there is stitching. Draw a line starting at the last stitches down to the long side - the base that you matched the horizontal line of your ruler. If this isn't clear I can do a sample. Trust me it is super easy once it clicks
yes please a sample would be great. yours are really lovely. They do go over very well with new moms. ~hugs Loralye~
Great job! The embroidery is so cute! Did you use flannel for the receiving blanket?
I do the same thing--I don't know why this can not stick in my brain how to stitch it. I do love watching Jenny on her videos as well as her guests.
Well, I think anyone who received these blankets would know that much love went into the project and fall instantly in love . I know I did.
Very Cute receiving blanket, nice job on the stitch outs. Love the fabric.
Happy Stitching :~)
Looks great to me. Love the little penquins, really cute.
I think you did well, love the little Penquins/Lillian
If you are using 2 different fabrics , lay one on top of other, round the corners, then put the 2 together right sides facing , sew all around leaving several inches open to turn, then blanket stitch all the way around the 2 of them. Voila no corners. Just make sure the place left to turn is turned in to match your seam before you blanket stitch. You can quilt, embroidery, what ever to keep the 2 pieces from separating in the middle, or tack in a few places. This is super quick, you can cut several at a time
can you share any that you may have made Lillian please? I work better with visual aids. Thank you either way ~hugs~
Next time I get some done I will. I make sets and give to the pregnancy ctr a couple times a yr. Right now I'm trying to get things ready for the Cultural Arts Show in 2 weeks and then the Fair is the next week. Along with my brother and his wife coming from Fl. (Hoorah). They haven't been to stay more than overnight for long time, this time they're coming for 5 days. Will get one done quick as I can
Those baby penguins are just darling on this blanket! I'm sure it will be used a lot.
You did a beautiful job on this receiving blanket. I don't care whether it's sewing or cooking, I never can do things in the time frame set. :)
That's a lovely blanket, Loralye, and the sides are meant to be that way!
Hugs, Lidia
This blanket is great, the design, fabric and colours are so nice!
Hugs, Roberta
That is a cute design and your blanket is darling. I am glad to hear that I am not the only one to have trouble with the corners. I have sewed them wrong and when I turn them see they were wrong. Have to rip them out and try to figure out the right way . I too have had to go back to the instructions to get it right.
I mark the insides with a pencil then I pin along that line then flip out to see if they are right & I still get them wrong? ah well it is really cute lol. Thank you so much Joyce ~hugs~
What a pretty baby blanket! I had to laugh when I saw your post. Every time I make one of these I have to look up the instructions for the corners too.... and the last one that I did, I made the miters the wrong way and wound up binding it like a quilt to save my work. But these are the cutest blankets.... I just wish I could remember stuff! --Sharon
Sharon lol I am so glad I am not the only one who has to keep looking this up. New mom's seem to just love these big blankets. Thanks ~hugs~
That is so gorgeous and I love the matching fabric with the designs. The baby will love it! Love Chris
I love these blankets, so cute and no one will ever notice the difference in the widths.....just the person who sewed it will!! very cute
Lovely blanket.
Love the blanket. If you have trouble with the mitre corners, I did until I purchased a 'double mitre ruler
from www.echidnaclub.com.au. The book that comes with the ruler takes you through step by step instructions with photos. It also shows how to mitre hexagons as well.
