Zipped purse retrieval - inspired by Pennifold's projects! This was one of the first projects I tried with my new machine. I had finished all of the stitching and cut it out when I realised that the bobbin was incorrectly inserted so there was completely wrong tension. (It was so easy to pull all of the stitching out!)

I had kept all of the components so today I remade the design in a smaller size.
It is unusual in that the zip is added after the fabric is ctitched to the stabiliser and quilted. The second picture shows the channel created for the zip. (I had cut the stabiliser away with a craft knife.) The zip is placed over the top of the channel and either a trim added, as I have done, or a decorative stitch added over the tape edges.
This is all very quick and easy to do, but the downside is that the tearway stabiliser has to be removed from the inside of the quilting on the purse front. (The rest is hidden under the lining.)

This is gorgeous.... The fabric, zip and lace are what make it so striking. Love those pansies! That is certainly a different way to put the zipper in.... interesting. --Sharon

No, the front of the purse is made and quilted before adding the zip.

Ooh! I love this. Yes, that is unusual to put zip in after fabric has been stitched and quilted. Everyone has different ways of doing things I suppose. I used to have a whole stack of those Pansy fabrics, must have given them away over time! It is stunning Sue and I love the addition of the little bit of broderie anglaise lace. Love Chris
