Do you know this? Your project is finished and you have scraps, not enough to make more from but to much to throw away.

Take a long strip of paper and sew your scraps on.(pic2)
Cut along the strip(pic3 and 4)<
Sew the stripe between fabric (pic5), embellish if you want and you have a new piece fabric you can work with.

After finishing my garden work after a few weeks I will take my tiny scraps, make strips and use they for potholders cushioncovers or coasters.
For all, which don´t do paper piecing I must say, use a smaller stitch lengths as usually this makes it easier to remove the paper and if you remove the paper after sewing the strip to a fabric the strip will be straight (may be some scraps are sewed on the bias).

Neat idea. Mine usually go in a bag for strip/string quilting later /Lillian

Here is a purse that I made with strips like this leftover from a quilt. I hate to waste anything that can be used again.

I think so too, patchwork fabric is in Germany very expensive, most time 17€ per meter or more.
In addition it is a lot of fun to create unique combinations of fabric.-)
Your bag is lovely

Great use of scraps. Could use them in a scrap pieced sweatshirt jacket also--just remove ribbing at neck, sleeve ends and bottom--open up at shoulder seams, remove sleeves and open them flat--then just cover all pieces with the strips you have made. Stitch all back together [line sweatshirt if you like while flat] and sew some bias binding on----brand new jacket! I love that you put rickrack between your seams!

a brilliant suggestion. It is always so difficult to keep the piece straight but this idea will sort that problem out. love it.

I like this idea, unfortunately I am ready to go onto something else, so all scraps go into a bag... for now!

Great idea. Now I am on the hunt for long strip of paper. The only one I have right now is toilet paper and I do not think that will work. Maybe Freezer Paper, or even using left over pieces of tear away sewn together. It would make a great border.

Thank you Angie, My paper is a strip from a measuring instrument, have you cash registers in your region? This would work too.

crafter2243 by crafter2243 edited 20 Sep 2015

Cash register paper or calculator paper rolls. Great idea. Thank you never thought about that.
