I like to use Maxi-Lock or the Long Creek Mills thread. Both have worked well for me.
I use the cheapest. My serger will work with anything. I have had my serger for about 30 years.
I don't have a serger but certainly would purchase mine from ThreadArt--a new product line for them. I have been very pleased with their polyester embroidery thread and cotton sewing thread (own every color available) so would not hesitate to make the new purchase.
buy the correct size cones [some really big ones won't fit the domestic machines] and have a look at the quality of the thread. If it seems 'fluffy' and not well-made, then keep looking. The overlockers or sergers are fairly forgiving in the kind of thread used, but quality does matter. The 'woolly nylon' type is good [nice and soft] when making pyjamas etc for small children and also is great when finishing the edges of bibs etc. as it can fill in the spaces nicely [when the stitch length is shortened].
Thank you. That is exactly what I was thinking the Joann thread looked like, fluffy. That's why I didn't get that kind. I would like to try the woolly nylon too.
If you need cotton thread in large cones, check out www.longcreekmills.com. Great prices. I don't serge, but I always pick up some of this for my serging friends when I visit there.
Maxi Lock. Don't get the ones at Joann's (I think it's their own brand?) as it didn't do well. I order from Wawak.
Thank you, I was at Joann's today and looked at theirs but wasn't sure. I figured I'd ask and order online.
