Looks really good. I printed the recipe. I haven't done any canning for a while. Do you do a hot bath? dee
My favorite fall dessert when the Honey Crisps come into the stores: 4 Honey Crisp apple quarters and four fresh caramels. Just like Caramel Apples without the messy pots and the goo! Any old apple cooked into my oatmeal, but give me Honey Crisps for eating out of hand.
Looks scrumptious, well done, so many jars. Your larder also must be overflowing, but nothing like home made. It will be a regular thing now, looking for pick your own anything. I have never done this, as i also am close to the shops, but am in awe of someone who can do this. Sandra.
We had great fun picking the ones we wanted & so nice that they were dwarf trees so I could reach them. I may have to look into maybe pick your fruit trees like pears that would be good too. I don't like the taste of store bought apple sauce so making my own is a much better option & no sugar added either. Thank you Sandra ~hugs~
Wow all you gals that bottle food up is wonderful to see on here. I've never ever done this. I suppose too that I am only a stone's throw away from my local shopping centre and even when we lived interstate, shops were always close by. When you are snowed in or you can't get to places this option is great and as you say a much healthier option - and you know what's gone into the preserves! Well done Loralye and all the other ladies who do this - you are all an inspiration. Love Chris
thank you Chris, I must say though we are 5 minutes from the stores lol but I like to can & have for many years so for me it's a healthier option & now that I am up to doing it I am ever so thankful. ~hugs~
only been snowed in once for a whole day lol. I am in southern Ontario so not near as cold as Carolyn.
I love honey crisp best but there$560. bucks a bushel:(:(i never Jared apple sauce ever ,i bag it lol looks great can i have a jar please lol just had to ask right ***i was a little nervous heheh
yes you sure can! Come & get it lol yes the honey crisp are really expensive here too $12 for 6 pounds, we picked 20 pounds of the Honey Crisp for $20 so a much better deal & the Mac & Gala 10 pounds for $4.50. We did well to pick them lol
Beautiful!! I have been busy too canning,.... looks so pretty with all the colors on the shelf.
it sure makes you feel good to see all that has been accomplished with home canning & knowing what is in it & that it is healthier for us is an added bonus! I do hope that you will share a photo of yours too ~hugs~
Delicious. I wished I would live closer to you. Would be standing at the doorway begging.
come on over anytime your in Canada I will have home made goodies & tea ready for you Angie!~hugs~
Could you maybe place the recipe for me. It looks good.
Welcome Linda to our cute family, we are happy to have you with us.
I use 3-5 different types of apples (usually 5) Peel & core them process in stock pot add spices like nutmeg cinnamon & ginger. Bring to a rapid boil that can not be stirred down to reduce the liquid & make it thicker then I pour into sterilized jars & hubs caps them all for me. it is really good even if I do say so myself
Many thanks from Postmasburg in the Northern Cape South Africa. We stay on a farm with lovely red and green appels. Regards.
Wow! Now you have me thinking...I thought I was finished with peaches marmalade, raspberry jam, raspberry vinegar & sauce, and pickled beets. That applesauce looks yummy and our local apples are in the market now....:-) It must be the "squirreling" instinct...every year at this time I go nuts (no pun intended) thinking that we have to stock up. The grocery store is only a short distance but you would think that we were going to be snowed in for weeks at a time! LOL I think I will have to buy some more apples...
Hugs, Nadyne
Nadyne these are so much better then store bought & those of us who can know this & of course ours is so much better too lol. Your pantry sounds deliciously well stocked!~hugs~
Oh yummy! I think you need to go back to pick another 45 pounds of apples. Then maybe you will enough for the year. Your jars look awesome. I'm now off to peel and slice a dozen apples for the dehydrator.
wow the dehydrator that would be a real space saver. Very cool. I hope you post when your done so I can see what they are like. ~hugs~
They are delicious! We like them snipped into smallish pieces on our cereals.
We dry at least a bushel a year of apples in our dehydrator...for a stack cake at Christmas time & eating. The best one to dry is Pipin...which is hard to find! I get it at an apple place in Cosby, TN.
What a wonderful pic. Never heard of something like apple sauce so I have no idea how it tasts. More something for dessert or also for meat?
Greetings, Bettina
wow Nice to "see" you Bettina, many people will use it as an accompaniment to pork chops. Mine is thick & very creamy rather like a pudding & finely ground too so not thick & chunky or grainy like the store jars. I add spices to mine so in some ways taste wise it is a lot like eating the filling of an apple pie. I also substitute apple sauce in all my baking when the recipe calls for oil I add the sauce , healthier option. Thank you ~hugs~
Bettina, look for an easy recipe and make a batch, you and the kids will love it
Wonderful...looks yummy, too! You should make a jar topper for the ones you are giving away as gifts...especially for the baby shower!
now that is a very good idea Kim & if time permits I may just have to do that. ~hugs~
