Ok, cuties, I tried the bag by Sue.......I followed the instructions to the letter and this is what I got......apparently I have dyslexia because when I turned my bag right side out, the fabric on the back is inside the bag and apparently I put the zipper too far over as I can't get to the pull to close it and the lining is only on one side.......I spen 3 hours on this and am thoroughly disgusted with me not having the ability to do these.......oh well, I sure tried!!

Thanks

I really need you all to know that I wouldn't have even posted this mess up, but because Sue was so generous to give it away to all of us, I felt a great need to give it a try and knew you guys needed to know that I at least tried........I do not want anyone to think this is a reflection on Sue's pattern....there are so many having beautiful sucess with this pattern.... so I don't want anyone else to be hesitant to try it....I know your result will be terrific!!

Oh goodness. I've been known to mess up boiling an egg.

I have not yet tried Sue's design, but have done some others similar. I think the "trick" is that you have to turn it twice. First you turn it so you can remove the stabilizer and open the zipper fully, then turn it again so it is all showing the right way. Hugs. Nan W

I think you are right, somehow the turn out hole got stitched, I only had the lining hole to turn out of.....

spendlove by spendlove 11 Oct 2015

You should only have that one gap. The second turn is through the open zip.

basketkase by basketkase 11 Oct 2015

So the lining is only on one side? and should I have put the back piece with the right side facing toward the hoop? I put it facing up toward me as that is how I perceived it in the pic....so I maybe didn't do as badly as I thought, right? I did pull it through the zipper and that is when I got the inside back piece on the outside, so I need to do that different and move the zipper over so the pull is on the inside of the bag.....right now my pull is sewn into the side.....LOL! I will not let this beat me.......Jim liked the bag so much, he said he would help me do the next one......won't that be fun..........mmmmmm

jrob by jrob 12 Oct 2015

LOL, please film that. I can't wait to hear Jim's instructions.

snowbird42 by snowbird42 18 Oct 2015

that is funny my d/H also jim wants to get into my sewing room he thinks he can organise it better this from a man who puts the groceries away in four different unrelated cupboards....soozie

cfidl by cfidl 18 Oct 2015

I think you will totally get it the next time. With or without Jim's help. I think Sue is a genius for doing things the way she does.! You are a genius in your designs, Sure the first time may not be perfect, and you may not need to understand the steps until you get there.

I was more afraid of the zipper and that was not an issue, other than my placement of it.......I have a very hard time figuring out this kind of stuff, so you need to try it, there are others that are having amazing results with this bag!!

Do not give up, try again, sometimes when you read agin it will all make sense. I try to actually do the steps to the instructions as i am sewing. the project . Practice makes perfect, and you do such amazing digitizing, we are not all perfect at everything. Do try agin. Sandra.

I did it step by step as I had the instructions printed out and kept a ruler under each step I was at.......it just has to be the way my brain is wired that makes these so difficult for me....

Do not beat yourself up about it. The first one I did took me hours. You are just so talented in the digitizing world. Have another try in the future and it will be fine. Love and hugs Sarah

Gosh I don't know how I did mine now. To see you had a boo boo makes me cringe. At least we know we all are just humans and no one has super powers. I am so in awe of anyone that can digitize. Love the embroidery and what you tried looks awesome. Always beautiful. And another opportunity.

I love A.H and your digitizing. I am sure the zips and lining will come. It just looks to me as if you used a metal zip... That would scare me. It puts your machine at risk if you hit a tooth on the side seams.
Better luck next try.

Vickie - it does all of us "amatures" good to know that even the experts sometimes have troubles (LOL with you). I may get brave enough one day to try this myself.

Now listen here you sweet person you,if this old woman can figure it out any one can. I just go real slow and think ," now when this is turned inside out what is going to show?". I try to think ahead and visualize what the next thing I do is going to look like after I do it. I too put the wrong side down at first when I thought that thought I realized I had it wrong so turned it over so it would come out right. You can and will get this then you can maybe digitize us a larger one He,he,he. Hugs/Lillian

Love your design- how appropriate! I know you will get it next time. I, too, struggle with turning things around in my head and I'm also directionally challenged. If you ever see me with my head up underneath the machine bed, I'm looking at my project straight on! LOL

I think you put the lining on top of the hoop, not underneath. Not sure how you lost the pull though. The design you have used is kind of apt!

basketkase by basketkase 10 Oct 2015

I don't know, Sue, the whole bottom sewed shut except for the lining......I put the lining under the hoop with the right side facing in and the back piece went on with the right side of fabric facing out towards me......

bevintex by bevintex edited 10 Oct 2015

Try again when you have time, you will get it

spendlove by spendlove 11 Oct 2015

I'll pop across and help you with the next one!

You at least tried this method Vicki. It is challenging because you have to have the lining and back fabric facing the right way. I love the saying, keep on trying Vicki. Love Chris

Are you tired as I have found that following instructions on something new doesn't work for me? Instead you have created a innovative bag. Think we all have off days. Good Luck with the next one
