I always think the extra uses you find for gizmos are better than the intended purpose.

I've just made a shopping bag out of an old curtain entirely using my "quarter inch foot".
I used it with the needle in the furthest right position to do the first run on the French seams and then in the centre position to do the second run. Perfect.
Top stitched the handles with the needle in the furthest right position. Perfect.
Finally, I pressed a double hem across the top and trapped the handles under it, top stitched round with the needle in the furthest right position so they were connected at the same time, then flipped them upwards to top stitch again with the needle in the centre position. Almost perfect. That didn't quite go through all the layers of the hem so I stitched round once more to create a third parallel top stitch with the normal foot. I wouldn't have needed to do that if I'd allowed a bit more fabric in the folded under part of the hem. Next time......

Any more lateral thoughts?

I am doing things the other way round. I have an edge stitch foot that I use in the same way as you described as well as top stitching by setting the needle to the most left position - and I use it as a 1/4" foot.

Before I had a serger I stiched a zigzag stitch to get nice edges, using the zipper foot to keep an equal width.

Nope! I think you have it covered! I often short sheet myself and I do like a straight top stitch!

I love it when someone gives me new ideas of how to use different feet. Just to think, I seldom use my quarter inch except for pieceing. Thanks!/Lillian

I think that is very clever. Thanks for sharing the idea of using the "old" curtain and the 1/4 foot to get the job done.

I didn't take pictures as I did it and it is too dark here now. I'll try to do some tomorrow.
