Beautiful pillow. Love the colours. Isn't it funny how we take electricity for granted? Last time we were without power every thing I thought of to do needed to be switched on.
Love your old machine.
Yes, a sad fact. And I was soooo Bored that day, until I got the patchwork out!
oh yes, I've learned to sew this way...But my mom did let it change into electric, so we didn't have to use the handle anymore...and your pillow looks lovely:)
Love what you have done. I allways think for many items which are done ITH you could get the same nice results with any sewing machine but with more individuality. ( May be I will get a lot of protest now)
But your machine looks like you move the wheel by hand? I only know machines to move the wheel by feets.
There are many Hand-wheel ones, I think that this would have enabled the sewing ladies of years ago to take their machines wherever they went.
Lovely result ! I bet it is not so easy to sew with the machine ? You need to turn the wheel all the time and at the same moment stich ?
yes, but it doesn't go backwards or do zigzag. so fairly simple and no, it is not difficult.
It's nice to have an old reliable for when the power is out, at least you didn't have to sit there and twiddle your thumbs till the power came back..
This looks lovely - I wish I had the space to collect some old machines.
I only have a couple Sue, and 2 small ones [they don't take up much room]
Wow ! look at that machine! Wonder what year it was mfg. My Mom got married in1935 and the first thing my Dad bought her was an electric Singer which she used to make so many clothes. It had a beautiful stitch. I never had the privilege to stitch on a treadle machine but I have seen them. Kay
I think it's from about 1905, but mine works by winding the handle. So I guess this made them 'portable', but it weighs very heavy.
I think we got that storm not longer after South Australia Vicki. For the first time since we've lived here in the 2 houses, we actually got Hail stones the size of marbles! I put the car under the carport just in time and had to sit in the car for a few minutes as they were pelting down from the sky. The pillow slip looks beautiful by the way. Well done, love Chris
Well that was bad for you Chris, no hail at ours thankfully. Just 41mm rain and 2 days with no electricity. 3 power poles fell over near us [found out this later]
I am drooling. There is something magical about the old machines or I am just so sentimental, because it takes me back to my youth. You are a lucky lady to own her.
I can't tell you how jealous I am!
ah! there, there never mind - I shall think of you next time it gets in the way when I'm cleaning. But, it is a great machine which I bought at a Second-hand shop quite a few years ago for $175.
I have always wanted an old sewing machine run with a treadle. This is beautiful!!
yes, I too would like a treadle which will work. I've got a nice looking (not rare) Jones, but I can't seem to make it go!
These old machines nothing fancy but, always a great standby for occasions like this. Well done. Sandra.
thanks, it was so dark without the lights on. I did have a battery light for the sewing bed, but otherwise very dark as it was a raging summer storm outdoors. Didn't do our ripe Barley crop any good!
