I've just finished sending out the Secret Sister details for the Secret Santa swap.

It would be nice if you could use this thread to drop a few more hints about your likes etc to help your sister decide what to make for you.

I didn't go to the mail box yesterday. When I left this afternoon to go to my nephew's for Thanksgiving I checked my mail and there was my gift from my secret sister. OMG, thank you so much, but now I have to wait. It is going to be hard....

That is VERY mean!! I have my gift done and ready to mail, but thought I would at least wait until after Thanksgiving.

Glad I came back here to read newer comments which led me to double check Sue's email. I totally didn't realize the one item rule and made several things with sister in mind. Lol maybe her birthday is coming up? Cuz I don't want to break the rules and have Sue send bad seam ripping vibes my way!
Hugs,
Lee

It's always been one item it's just that many have problems reading and counting. Sue puts a lot of effort and time to sort the swaps so it's courteous we follow her request.

dragonflyer by dragonflyer 22 Nov 2015

Sue was very clear when she set the post to sign up...if you can't count to One and One only...don't sign up! Glad you finally realized that it is only ONE...cuz I am sure Sue would be sending bad seam ripping vibes your way... :)

Here is my spiel:
Birthday is October and I love Autumn.
Initials are CJF
Hubby's are RWF Jr

I have a southwestern kitchen and mixed artsy livingroom.
I am becoming an animal activists including humans who need the most.
My favorite are the Red tail Hawk and the Elephant. I also have a thing for ocean critters. I also restarted gardening and canning. Really I love all plants, animals and colors.

I love trees and my favorite insect is the Praying Mantis. I live in the city and only occasionally see the Milky Way.

I'll be home for Christmas!

by sewfrenzie 20 Nov 2015

Sorry I didn't do this sooner. Just couldn't find time, so I had to make some, ha-ha.
My rooms are all beige, sandstone, or neutral earth and spice tones. If you make towels please NO WHITES! We have a body shop and the hubby will use what is out and white is hard to keep clean.
My sewing room is a hodgepodge of different crafts and sewing projects. I don't care for frilly, ruffle, or prims, I prefer simple and clean designs.
I do like cardinals, chickadees, blue jays, sewing machines ( I have 4, and 3 sergers), sewing designs and mannequins, I prefer something practical that I can use all year around instead of Christmas. I have lots of Christmas stuff, he-he.
So something I can use in my sewing room to help organizer things, Like tool organizers that hang off a table or chair, or table runners, or colored kitchen hand towels, or something alone those lines. I am sure I will be happy with whatever my SS decides to send.

ooooo how did I miss this ,

I've thought long and hard about this whilst out walking the dog.

When we began doing this we set a price limit on the gift, but then I didn't feel that was appropriate so I changed to "one". Each year though, people interpret that rather loosely! My main aim is to save people being embarrassed if they have only sent one gift and others have been more lavish. Perhaps I should set a time limit on the gift!

When you make your gift please take all my waffle into account and stay within the bounds of sanity.

A set of towels is way over the top and not allowed. Likewise a set of placemats. Multiple unrelated items are banned. However, a set of coasters may be considered to be equivalent to one table runner and therefore will be allowed.
But - DON'T PUSH YOUR LUCK! (And yes, I was shouting!)

Sue, stay calm and take care of yourself. I think everybody must now understood the rules... If there is any doubt, they still can ask you to clairfy isn't it ? And if there are still who don't understand it... i would say that they can't join any more next time. Don't end this nice cuties gift 'cos some just don't get it.

spendlove by spendlove 20 Nov 2015

I'm chilled!

I'm glad to hear that Cuties are coming around to the 'one item only' rule. One small item is all that's needed to be able to look around and see a lovely reminder of how great our secret sister Cuties are :)
I don't exactly live a home decor kind of life, so nothing that I receive needs to match any particular colour scheme or theme and something practical or useful really suits me better than something that will require much space to be shown off in :) I love mugmats nearly as much as I love coffee and will never have too many of those. I put my iced water on one as well so I don't get droplets of water on my sewing table or my work. I also love embroidered or decorated tea towels, hand towels, bags for supermarket shopping etc. I really like sayings, funny lines or anything that will make someone smile, though I know that embroidering text can be a challenge for some of our finicky machines, which often require a little fiddling with tension etc when doing such things. I can't wait to see what we all produce on this round of Secret Santa. I find it fascinating to watch all of the items appear in the thread and see what a range of things we come up with, often even using the same or a similar design in a totally different way from each other.

rescuer by rescuer 18 Nov 2015

Please try to understand that the rule of ONE is so that all Cuties will feel like they can participate. Not all Cuties can afford to create and send many gifts. Some gifts are sent outside a local mailing area and can be quite costly to mail. Also, some Cuties still work so they have time restraints.
I have many family members to give to as I am one of nine children and I have nine children (if you include the foster and step-children) and half of them are married. If I thought I needed to create several gifts, I would not be able to participate in any of the swaps.

spendlove by spendlove 18 Nov 2015

It also saves people being embarrassed if they have only sent one gift and others have been more lavish.

I have been away and just saw your thread Sue. I dropped some hints of my likes in my sign up note to you. I will love anything that my secret sis would like to make for me. My specific likes include, teacups, teapots, hearts, vintage sewing machines, vintage sewing supplies, quilts, raggedy ann, cute prim designs. My favorite color is blue. Kitchen colors pastel blue, pink and white. Bedroom ivory, mauve and hint of lavender and green, living and family room neutral beige color with accents of cream, dining room powder blue.

I thought I would add my two cents worth!!
I love the colors of blue and yellow - even together. I especially love nautical and beachy things - beach bag, handtowels, mugrugs, coasters or anything for my very messy craft room. I am sure I will treasure any gift I receive!! :-)

Morning, have time this morning to give some hints. I love anything outside. Birds are my favorite, flowers next and trees. Inside I have chick-a-dees, flowers, any cute saying for sewing room. Colors, I have yellow in sewing room, pinks in kitchen(which I hope will change this winter). But I still like anything someone else makes and I am not a picky person. Best wishes to all.

The most of my house is Blue and White, even though I love colour these were the only two I could pin down DH on. Anything you would like to make will be treasured. Marian

I sent Sue some info to go on but here is some more. I have spent the last year living out of boxes leading up to moving and now getting settled so a box is a no no. I am enjoying our new home and look forwards to getting sorted but my other half is enjoying himself redoing the house. I greatly look forwards to a gift to me, preferably for all the year and not Christmas and something for ME

I never had anything quilted before. It looks difficult and you need to be very correct in the measures. I never tried myself. Maybe a pillow size of it ? Last year I got a lunch bag. Love it a lot. Goes every day with me to work. Table runner is nice too... A beautifull FSL angel to put on my Christmas tree top,....I'm installing a new badroom right now, so a nice towel ? (colors are brown and beige),.... Hope this gives enough inspiration ...

I'll go next. My home is Western Themed, but not Southwestern. Cowboys as opposed to kokopeli. So browns and creams, some green but no blue and definitely NO PRIM or cutesy. I love Christmas so would like something in that theme but also love tea towels or hand towels that I can use all year round. Hope this helps a bit. Hugs. Nan W

fertillity gods that are kind of wooden stick figures hunched over and playing a flute or something similar. Very popular in SW decor.

Hi Sue, let me be the first to tell! I love Roosters, birds - mostly native and any Australian flora and fauna. I prefer something to use for most of the year and not just at Christmas time. If you can't find your "sister" type in the Cute embroidery address and then / and her user name and her posts will come up. Very helpful for someone who doesn't post very often, unless it is someone who hardly ever posts. I searched and only found one post by my secret sister.
