Wow, that's a beautiful doily, congratulations!
Hugs, Lidia
Thank you, I had to compete with the marvelous embroidery doilies you produce. :-)
VERY pretty, I can NOT do filet crochet he he
....but I have seen great crochet items you have posted. A round filet crochet I can not do either.I t always turns out slightly oval.
Totally gorgeous , and handmade makes it so special xx
Good job. I never understood how to reconcile TV and crocheting or knitting. I admire.
I guess it is more a listening then watching. With knitting I can watch as well unless it is a complicated pattern
wow, that's a beautiful result for keeping yourself busy! Great job !! hugs, love G.
Beautiful piece. I too love the edge work finish you have here, along with the corner details. Crocheting the name on the corners like graceandham mentioned would be very special. This type of handwork is so labor intensive and this generation wanting everything so fast and inexpensive makes it hard to get paid for the time it would take to create this kind of treasure. It is likely why these types of handcrafts are made mostly for our family members and then hopefully the family member will actually treasure the items. Sadly by our ability to find handwork items in thrift stores, garage or yard sales or boot sales as I have heard some Europeans call them, are signs that too many do not understand the treasure they were given. Beautiful piece. Pam
Beautifully done. I too like to crochet, but I learned with wool and find it much more tricky with thin thread. You are an expert!
Thank you. I also learned with wool first and then advanced to the threads.
Nice work! the star pattern is so useful, whether it's cross stitch, scandinavian style knitting or crochet, it always looks good. And your edging is lovely.
I love crocheting. My mother found crocheted bedspreads, doilies, lace inserts "ridiculously old-fashioned" but unknown to her I enjoyed making doilies at my granny's who was always making things for her church fairs and I was ever so proud mine got her seal of approval. She taught me to look closely at a doily, count the repeats, notice how increases were made and go from there.
Your doily brought back memories, thank you!
Thank you. I am glad I brought back good memories. Obviously I love crochet as well, but I have to pay much more attention to the pattern then with knitting.
Stunning Angie, I love hand made crochet doilies, runners etc. You've done an excellent job on this one. Love Chris
Thanks Chris. Nowadays I spend too much time on the computer and not as much with my needlework. Takes a lot longer to get something done. :-)
Very beautiful! How do you plan on using it? I remember we had dresser scarves or what ever you call them on the furniture in my Mom's home. My Mom did not make these so I assume my great grandmother made them as my grandmother did not sew. She loved working in the flowers gardens. This is almost a lost art. Lucky you learned it! Kay
Kay I am still very much the old style European, even though I have lived in the USA for more then 50 years. I still like tablecloth, doilies and runners. This one will find its way under a vase, candy dish and the like. They used to make those also to cover armrest on chairs or the back of a chair to protect the upholstery.
Thats how I was raised and I have managed to hant on to some of the arm rests crocheted by my G. Mother.
It's gorgeous. I especially love the shape of the four corners. I had a friend who used to do this shape for chair backs and crochet the family name in it. It made a nice small business for her.
I like the corners too, but they give me a bit of a hard time trying to iron them. I can imagine the family name crochet into the design would be fun. No one could walk away with it ha ha
Lovely piece of work, i can only crochet edges, i admire someone who is this good. Thanks for showing us. Sandra.
Thank you Sandra. If you know how to crochet edges you have mastered the most difficult part. Tension and manipulating the hook.
The tension is my big problem, i just do not seem to be able to master this. Maybe ,being left handed does not help, but i do hold the hook with my right hand. Any ways i shall keep on trying. Sandra.
this is gorgeous, crotchet is something that has beaten me, I have not ben able to conquer it, I envy all who can do it, this is a great piece. Trish
Thanks Trish. I had to learn it since it was part of our school curriculum and we were 8 or 9 years old.
Same at my school. Started with a potholder. Crocheted a simple (white) grid, then had to crochet meters and meters of single stitch (in blue) that were woven through the grid in two directions. Actually that was the most difficult part of it. I still have a few I made when I was just married.
Oh I forgot about that. I used to crochet the grid and then using left over yarn to weave through to make a scarf.
