My daughter-in-law, who neither sews nor embroiders, asked me to make an apron with a logo for a good friend who has a small catering business. Unfortunately she did not get the jpg-file of the logo until Christmas eve.

So yesterday before breakfast I digitised the emblem and showed it when she, my son, 3 grands, my daughter, her husband and 1 GD arrived just before lunch.
DIL wanted the words as well and sought the internet for a match, but found none, so no quick font option and I decided to digitise them from scratch. DIL said she could do that if I told her how to set the nodes. And she did while I was preparing dinner. I had to set the parameters, make connection stitches and that was it. Tested the design and had it stitched out while the family was going for a walk. Of course I forgot to to take a picture. Those pesky dots, 52 of them, had as many jump stitches - unavoidable, alas.
DIL found digitising therapeutic!!
I let her use Embird as I think is the easiest.
So for all of you who think digitising is too daunting, think again and give it a try in the new year.

Peace and quiet here today - and I need it!

PS. Just for the fun of it I had Bing translate this into Dutch - and got a piece that had me guessing what was meant every other line.

I think she must be a savant. This is a fabulous logo, Martine.

Katrien's husband made the logo from a photo of her. He sent us the file. DIL visits them on New Year's Eve, so I am looking forward to K's reaction - I might expect orders.

Oh Martine, you amaze me accomplishing all you set out to do! I'm sure DIL will be getting a program now, since she understands and finds its like therapy. That's how I feel sewing is to me, therapeutic. Now digitizing or any electronic makes me nervous, as I don't understand what I'm doing. I too wish I had someone to 'show & explain' how it's done. I don't understand a lot of PC language so there's no hope for me!- lol

Thank you, Toogie. I am sure it's a one-off for her as her interests lay elsewhere. Your embroidering is always so nice and if that relaxes you, don't try digitising if it makes you nervous!

That is so great. You make me think that I really should get going and dive into learning Embird. To me it still is so intimidating and you do things like that while taking care of family needs.

Thank you. Don't forget I have been using Embird since Sept 2008 - so now you can wake me up in the middle of the night, ask a question and get a sensible answer. But for a beginner I'd advise starting with one tool - say just (out)lines - that makes it fairly simple. All those ITH projects are done using the line tool and sewing knowledge. Cutwork designs use lines and columns. You can do the most beautiful things without mastering all the software offers. And you can always ask if you need help.

I have a thought. I will gladly give up my bedroom if can get a sensible answer. Ha, ha.
Seriously thank you for the advise how to begin.

Wow - family dinner, a digitizing lesson, and grandchildren all about. You are one amazing woman!!!!! Glad you were able to do this project for your DIL. But wait, now she will want to use your embird program and then your machines. That sure is a sneaky way to get to spend more time with your grandchildren. Good on you!

I am sure it is a gift that will be treasured. Treasured also by both your daughter in law and you as she was able to learn to do a skill and achieve a design that she wanted to make for her dear friend. I still have hopes after another surgery I will be able to concentrate and remember well enough to do some digitizing. Thank You for all the talent you share with us and all the help you give to help the cute sites and designing for Yoriko. Hope the holiday festivities filled your mind with happy memories and now for a good rest. Happy Holidays, Pam

Kudos to you and your daughter. I love the logo, but alas I am totally dependent on folks like you. I wish I had someone like you nearby to teach me the basics. Maybe then I would do better.

Thank you. I usually do well enough just reading how to do it, I know quite a few prefer being shown. My Dil uses graphic programs on a daily basis so a few instructions were sufficient.
