2 questions that have been bothering me a while :

1) If you create a coaster. And the back you also place a fabric to cover up the back of your design. Do you also cut your threads or not 'cos your covering it anyway ?
2) Any ideas why sometimes my machine informs me when my bobbin is almost empty but most of the time I does not ?

I can't help you with your machine, but I do trim my threads if I am backing my coasters with fabric and the thread colors may show. Otherwise, I jut let them be.

For me a lot depends on what type of design I've put on the coaster. If it's a redwork or single line design, I don't cut the threads. Sometimes it's easy for those type to come undone or there is no tie off stitches. Also, if there are thread color changes that result with loose threads on the back, I trim those. My newer machine has an automatic cutoff function, but my older machine leaves long threads. Anything that is loose and dangling I trim, otherwise I don't.

Well, if the back of the coaster is covered, I usually have the thread cutter engaged but if one does not clip properly I am not too fussy about it...as far as the bobbin goes, there is a sensor that triggers the bobbin message and if the sensor gets "dirty" it cannot read when the bobbin is almost empty...I have a BabyLock Ellisimo and my dealer has helped me over the phone by letting me know where this little sensor is and advised I take a new, clean Q-tip and gently swab it over the sensor eye...once I do that...I'm back in business...especially helpful if you stitch a lot of items with batting or other "fuzzy" material...like quilts and coasters...Perhaps you can ask your dealer how to clean the bobbin sensor on your...saves a lot of trips to see the dealer for me!

Thanks about the tip of the sensor ! I will call this week to 'y dealer to find out where it is located. Never was thinking it could be this. Was wondering if I made a mistake when winding up the bobbins

Great information. Thanks for the tip on the "eye'. I also have an Innovis and have the same problem with the sensor when the bobbin is almost empty.

1) No. I do not,but my machine cuts them automatically. I let it be the way it is.
2) I think your machine wants to keep you on your toes. My old machine gave me a warning and then I could continue for hundreds of more stitches. The one I have now is telling the truth. Maybe 5 inches of thread left. There maybe something wrong with the sensor with your baby.

When I do coasters, I usually put Felt on the back cause it absorbs moisture, and yes, I clip most of the threads, but not real particular about getting real close as when the back is showing. 2nd ques... I have 2 Brother machines and most times they tell me when bobbin is low, but occassionally they get lazy, and it runs out!!! My oldest machine a 750D is due for her yearly exam, and I am afraid I have run her ragged in the last 3 months, and may need to replace her! She has several complaints, & one is she has quit telling me when the top thread breaks, and also she has decided she only occassionally wants to clip the threads! So I will not wait until Feb to take her in, she is going as soon as our weather gets decent!!! I hope I have been helpful to you but I tend to run on too long! Hugs, Judy...
