There seems to be constant confusion about posting links to free designs. Before you post a link, you need to fully understand why any site owner would want to give you something for nothing.

It costs a lot of money to run an attractive website and it takes a lot of time to digitise and test quality designs. In offering you a freebie, the site owner wants you to see for yourself the standard of the design so that you will visit their site regularly. (This means that they really want you to stitch the design out not just file it away somewhere!) Their main reason, though, is that they want you to see their whole collection of designs so that you are tempted to buy. Because of this, the free designs are often spread around the other pages, or only offered to those who sign up for an email newsletter.
So, before you post a link, please spare a thought for the person who is putting all of the hard work in! Why not say "There is a lovely free design of a pink elephant now available at Pachyderm Embroidery" and give a link to the home page? Or "Pachyderm Embroidery is currently offering free designs through their newsletter. If you visit the site you can sign up for it and enjoy the benefits."

I sometimes make long lists, but that's because I realized that there was no link last week and I miss him a lot of drawings started in the lists.
It's just that others do not have the same surprise me .
Excuse my English, it is the google translator.

I thought it was worthwhile bringing this back to the front page.

I wish more people would understand this... If they did, I might find time to sew or embroider something. Websites might be able to thrive and as a result, there might be more embroidery designs available to us all.

Thanks Sue for putting this into easy to understand language. We need to be protective as well as kind to our digitizers. I know I got a great education by searching through websites and learned the style of designs I liked and digitizers I like as a bonus.

I down load some designs and file them away because I appreciate the work in both digitizing and art. I also save some designs that are larger then my current 4X4 area, because some day I will buy a machine with a larger area and will be able to sew them at that time.

I did the same as you--when I only had 4 x 4 I still downloaded the larger sized designs for the one day I'd be able to afford a larger machine with multiple hoops. I appreciate links being posted and because of this I found Cute site as well as many others that have become my favorites. I can not digitize so I am grateful for those that give their time and their freebies to use less fortunate. I am a collector of these designs because they are beautiful, sweet, elegant etc etc. It gives me choices also. I could not possible stitch every design I own but have the hopes to do many. My energy level is very low but when the mood hits to get everything out and sit and embroider, then I do enjoy myself to watch the beautiful designs come out. I do browse the sites, I do sign up for newsletters--some of which never come--why?? because I didn't spend my money buying something---who knows--all I know is that I appreciate all the beautiful designs, I appreciate the digitizers, I appreciate the women and maybe men who give up their freebies, I appreciate all the people who feel they can trust those sites and the wonderful people I've met as online friends--something I don't do often because of fear of viruses--this site in particular is one of my favorites because they are never afraid to ask for prayer. Even one of our local Mall's kicked out my pastor when he prayed for a woman that asked for prayer. If this site allows for links for freebies--then I am all for it. If you like the designs you will scour the site for more even if only to buy $1.00 design---but I assure you---we do look at the entire site. I do at least.

Thank you, Sue. Our community is quite large and I would feel so bad if through our carelessness we caused a site to have financial problems or to just give up. There have been several that simply quit giving free designs- period. Think before temping anyone to only "add to their collection."
Better yet, if you get a free design, stitch it out and put it in projects.
