I know we have talked about this before, but now I am wondering if anyone has come up with any new suggestions of how to keep bobbins tidy. I have so many with thread on them and the ends are always a problem.

I use the spine that you use in books

This is interesting. I have just had a big clean out and thrown a lot of these away.

I like this idea, Raels. It looks tidy and you can see what colours are there.

I like readily to see all the bobbin colors previously wound and to keep the bobbin thread-type corralled together so was thrilled when I first discovered The Bobbin Saver . Three different colored donuts have been placed into service: embroidery thread; 100% cotton thread; and general purpose sewing thread. Wish I had information available about the tubing before I started with the more expensive commercial product.

I bought very inexpensive plastic tubing at Home Depot..cut it into small pieces that fit around the inner bobbin holding the pesky tail ends perfectly...posted this quite some time ago at the below link...works great..and they fit in all my bobbin boxes...it's a winner for sure!

I have just looked at Plant Clips on e-bay just to see what is around. I have tried the green one with my results down below. I like the clear clip but can not comment on it as I do not have one available. If anyone has any of these can you check it out please.

After a tip from a sewing friend, here is how I store bobbins -in corrugated plastic tubing that is sold from hardware stores as cable tidy tubing. I have cut a wider gap along the length, then cut into sections depending how many of each type of bobbin I wish to store together. With the really strong springy thread, I add an elastic band to the individual bobbins as they are so determined to unwind!

Thank You but I have so many Bobbin boxes and this would not work for me.

The vinyl tubing is a winner. Also if you find ice trays in yard sales cheap they will hold lots and can be stacked.

The small fishing tackle box works great to hold my bobbins. I purchase the stretchy pony tail holders at the dollar store. You can get 7 wound bobbins in a row. I keep them separated by color of thread...I have 3 boxes. The boxes come from WalMart or could be purchased from a sport store in the fishing department.

I see hart below has given you a good idea. I like this too. I've found a picture on the internet showing you how to use this. Good luck, the other option is of course buying the expensive ones through. Punch with Judy at "The Rock" near Wagga Wagga in NSW sell them 12 for $11.95. I'm not sure Lyn if there is someone in South Australia who sell these. My suggestion would be to use the plastic tubing. I also use a plastic type of tape to put around my spools of thread too. The Hemingworth threads have a little plastic plug and sit inside a plastic casing, so all you have to do is place the lid over it and no threads hanging out. Good luck Lyn, love Chris

You have just given me an idea. I have a clip that they put on plants (mine is tomatoes) to hold them against the stake. I will have to check it out. I am sure they would be cheap at a Nursery.

Brother gave me 10 nifty little link-together bobbin holders with my Innovis 2200. It sits like a little tray in front of my machine and I love it! They pop in and out quite easily. Please don't do the price calculation per holder - just go get the Innovis - great machine!

I recently bought a piece of 3/8 outside diameter x 1/4 inside diameter clear vinyl tubing slit it and cut pieces that would fit bobbins holding thread in place. I don't remember where I heard about this, but it worked very well, clear so you can see the color of thread and 12" cost 35 cents. Made 14 bobbin thread covers and still have 10 inches left. I hope this is understandable. My husband made a thread holder with small dowels and I like to keep the bobbin with the spool.

I thought this might explain it. I really has worked for me as well.

Thank You for this. I have already bought the tubing but then got out of the habit of using it. The photo looks just like mine - untidy.

I have just tried this. Had to cut a few bits of the clip and it works but I am not happy with it as it is not successful in the half full bobbins as the clip moves around too much. Think I might go back to the clear tubing.
