This is stunning! I love doing fsl but have done only angels and Christmas decorations. What you have done here is super!
Hugs, Nadyne
Simply lovely - I am just not that great at FSL!! You did wonderful!
Beautiful work as always. Thanks for showing us the step by step process.
Carolyn this is stunning, a wonderful job again from you. Thank you for your tutorial , i am going to give it a go. At christmas i did Yoriko's fsl trees and was thrilled with my first attempt. I can see the year will be a challenging time with new things to try. I have asked my dealers opinion with stabilisers, and they are now saying use the woven wss for lace and the plastic was for towels only on the top what are your thoughts please. Also do you use the same thread top and bottom and do you use a different size needle just for lace, I would be interested to know what you would recommend. Sandra.
ok but i will get me in trouble likely .Mr. singer told me 10 years ago to use organ needles size 90/14 for everything***even in my sergers .I buy 100 for 12 bucks****
I also use thin plastic wws on top of all my towels and heavy plastic or pieces i have saved for the back i sometimes use the white stuff but like the heavy wws best as i can use one piece if i got no scrapes hugs
I agree with toogie, that looks like a heirloom.. Gorgeous! ! !
Oh my stars,Carolyn, this is beautiful! The ecru color makes it look like a vintage lace doily, an heirloom... Gorgeous!
I looked on the site...would this be Doily #7 a 4x4? So a 4x4 should make up 8 inches around?...not that I'll be making any, just wondering.
This one finished out to be 9.75x9.75 and it fits a 170x100 frame for embroidering it out ok some she has for a 4x4
Very pretty looking. Thank you for the step by step tutorial.
Happy Stitching
Love it!!!Thank you ...Awesome work and tutorial!!!!Gorgeous!!!
You are awesome, Carolyn........great tutorial and beautiful design......
Fantastic tutorial! I really appreciate your effort to help us understand techniques of ME. Fabulous doily!
Great work Carolyn... I know this will help people out a lot. Thanks for sharing. Mechille :)
I also love fsl. my favorite thing to make is butterflies and I like the look you get with some variegated threads, what I don't like is the clear type washaway like badgemaster. I have success with vilene so that is what I always use. If you have never tried it give it a go and you may find yourself hooked.
just beautiful, I want to try one too. I have not decided whether I will handstitch or machine. Now that you have done it what will you do again.
This doily is Beautiful... I was looking through my designs yesterday and saw these. I love FSL. Great job!!!
Kathy
become great, do you still know how much thread you have used?
hugs, Maria
This is such a great doily Carolyn, lovely work. Did you hand-stitch, zig-zag the sections together, or use one of the joining stitches on your Viking? Love Chris
zig zag what joining stitches are there??I must look .I have only sewed with them once i only use them for embroidery and use my old singer girl for all else.hugs
Hello,
You do such beautiful work. This is stunning Carolyn, like everything you touch. Take it easy on the arm.
The lady at my sewing store suggests one layer of the white washaway and one layer of the clear washaway in the hoop. The clear mostly washes out and the white leaves some stability in the result. Tried it and liked it.
thanks for the tips.. I am going to have to try this again.. have not done it in a long time.. thanks for sharing..
These are good step by step photos. I had to stop using the water soluble film as it stretched too much in my hoop when embroidering. It is good to see you are having success with it. Have you found it better using two layers of the film? Does it wash out and make for a softer doily when it is finished. Thinking I should give it another try as I have been doing so much fsl lately. Thanks for sharing.
Sew mum, I have found that using one layer of the plastic type of WSS along with one layer of the "woven" type works well to use up my stash of the plastic. Would not buy it again. Use the thin type for topping. As far as how soft your doily turns out, rinse it again with a drop or two of fabric softener until it is the way you like it. Hugs. Nan W
I have been using 2 layers of water soluble vilene for my fsl. I was recommended to use it at a demo day for the janome 500e when we made some fsl. Worked perfectly so I went home and made over a hundred fsl snowflakes on my 350e the same way.
Nan I didn't even consider 1 layer each of the film and woven. Will be a good way to use up the film. I have mainly been using that for towels since I found the woven type
