This is how I store most of my embroidery thread. It is in the corner of my sewing area -- away from light and heat. I have it sorted by colors where possible. The bottom area has my embroidery thread bobbins and bobbin spools as well as my hat and other attachments.

The shelves were on sale at Target when I got them. They lock into each other with dowel bits. I am sure you could use many things to get the same results. I wanted my threads up where I didn't have to bend over to get to them or see what colors I have. The shelves sit on top of a file credenza. The cases for the threads were from Jo Ann's (also on sale). It has been wonderful to have them like this.

I just wish my whole sewing area were as tidy..but I do love that one spot. :)

Oh your so funny recuer. We all have that sewed in look.

For me, it explains the reason I need so many pairs of scissors. ;)

for sure you are organized ! And so many colors, are they all different ? I'm afraid that my collection of colors doesn't even come close to yours..But I like the way you can easily view the whole set.

They are all different. My old "set" of embroidery threads were nothing compared to this set. I do have some from other companies than Metro mixed in there. I love looking at the colors. It is like gazing at inspiration. I do have one more shelf to build in case I "need" more colors. ;)

I would love to come visit! My space still needs refining before I can work on yours though. I have quite a few more areas that need my help. ;)
I just really needed the rainbow of colors safe but where I could see them -- so I started there.

This is what makes sewing such a pleasure. Getting to browse through these beautiful set-ups and turn your imagination loose. I love this- it's clean, well organized and visually appealing. Lucky you to have that much room.

I had a bedroom...but gave that up to a son that needed to come back home. I stole more than half the family room. :D

Nice...but are all those Metro spools with labels on them duplicate colors or ones you haven't used yet???

One of my dearest friends bought me some Metro thread. She felt she needed to pay me for helping her with her computer. She is such a dear friend! She is wonderful!
Sadly, I haven't had a lot of time to embroider since becoming a moderator. I am thrilled now that we have more moderators. I just have to get over recent surgery and other pressing health issues. Soon, I will be happily stitching with my machines humming again!

dragonflyer by dragonflyer 10 Jan 2016

Hope you are "humming" soon, too! I really like Metro threads...

rescuer by rescuer 11 Jan 2016

I listened to the sweet sound for hours last night. Now the trick is to do the actual project...the test run last night went for more than 2 hours of stitching. Today will be longer -- much longer! I will have more than 60,000 stitches and more than 50 changes to do.
I love it!

Nice way to store them but at the rate I change thread colors I think I would be constantly opening and closing cases. Looks terrific,
