"Grandmother's eco-garden". I was given a couple of packets of Laura Ashley pre-cut hexagons so I started paper piecing (by hand). I found some off-white fabric and embroidered flower motifs on it for the central hexagons, and then put it all together.

When I had a panel as big as I could get, I stitched it to a panel of the off white fabric and backed it with polar fleece. Finally, I embroidered insects in the spaces around the edge. The whole thing is about 115 cm wide and 135 cm high. (It is hanging on my kitchen wall.)
The label is stitching out as I type!

Gorgeous! I love the colours and the insects make your garden come alive. I stll have a box filled with tiny hexagons, basted to paper templates that need to be (hand)sewn together. thanks for the inspiration.

That is a very original way to use hexies! I love how you added insects to it. It gives the eye a lot of interesting things to look at. Sort of little hidden treasures in the quilt. The central flower fabric along with the insects give it a lovely garden feel. Fabulous work!

Sue, that's lovely, especially the insects. I always have some hexagons on the go so I have something to keep my hands busy but I might start to do something with them now. See you are inspiring me again!! Jo
