Another quick fix is to buy some of the thin tubular gauze, the kind you use for fingers, slips over the spools and works great. I usually don't need a cover except on my metallic threads and boy are those a pain in the backside. But the ladies here helped but suggesting that I lower the tension, slow down the machine and use a thread net. They also recommended a special needle but I'm to lazy to change the needle for a few stitches. Anyway good luck.

I, too, use a thread holder with ALL of my threads, even when I am piecing or quilting. The thread winds of the spool rather then the spool turning. Works great. The only time I have a problem with threads shredding and breaking is if I use a cheaper thread. You only get what you pay for!!!!!

Hello everybody,
For my 2,000/5,000 meter spools I use old stockings. I have got short legs, ... ha,.. but my stockings go a long way!

I have had so much trouble lately myself with breaking thread and machine keeps coming up thread break but thread isn't broken - i often sit and watch to see what happens and it appears that alot of the threads aren't wound onto their spools properly which cause it to reel off too loosely. Went and bought some netting covers and that does help alot but must try the t-shirt fabric as the netting fabric does seem to stretch therefore not allowing to use on big reels and small. My machine used to give me no heartache but some days it just doesn't want to cooperate. A new one would be awesome as mine is about 8 years old now. Oh - i can only dream hahaha!

I wonder if the threads are getting caught on something. Maybe a rough spool? Any way, I started using a thread holder that takes the thread up higher than my machine and that way it comes off the spool up and then down to my machine. This method especially works well with metallic threads. Try it and let me know.

I've got 2 of those thread holders katy plus my hubby made me one that I can put 5 spools of thread on at 1 time . No problems with thread breaking *4U
