Easy on and off clothing. I've had cervical laminectomy in around 2001. Had to sleep in a recliner for a short period of time. Not a lot of pain. My doctor went in through the back of neck. I have a friend that just had this in the last few months and is having pain-but--a car hit them from behind. She now does physical therapy which they hadn't done at first. I was surprised because I had to have 3 weeks for upper strength.
Jan, just remembered that "fear not" is in the Bible 365 times. Once for every day.
Hi, I had a neck fusion a few years back, also done through the front side of my neck. I only wore blouses that could open up all the way down front and closed with buttons.
God bless! I am praying that all goes well and that you have a speedy recovery.

I have had this surgery and there is nothing to be concerned about but especially in this case when the Lord will be guiding the surgeons hands.
I suggest you take a top that does not just pull on over your head.
May the Lord be with you.
"Prays that everything will work out and go smoothly for you. Never have had to have surgery (lucky genetics!!) but a dear friend had something that sounds very similar to yours, the Dr. went in through the front,to fix the back because the recovery was supposed to be easier and faster & she thought it was so hopefully that will be true for you.
Wishing you all the very best for your surgery and a quick recovery
Jan, you've received many helpful tips from friends here. Look at all the love you've inspired. You know God will be with you and Willie during your hospitalization. Maybe take some Sudoku puzzles to help pass the time while you are in the hospital. {{Hugs}}
Put all your anxieties into the Lord's hands. Our prayers are with you for a speedy recovery.
Dearest Jan..........you will get through this without issues as you are one of the strongest women I know..........looks like you have gotten good, positive advice here and will be praying for a short recovery for you...
Love........
You are in expert hands, I can't offer any better advise than has been already given. Will keep you in my thoughts for a quick recovery. Marian
Oh, Jan, I have read through the many comments - it sounds as though the recovery time will be reasonable!! Many prayers for you - please let us know how you are doing!! Hugs, Laura*
My SIL had this surgery and she said the relief from the constant pain was such a blessing. She had a short recovery time. The scar is further down her neck than the lady's picture on here. She wore clothing that went over her head, but the neckline wasn't tight. Just take one of each type to the hospital with you and then you will be prepared for what to wear home according to how you are feeling. Hugs and prayers.
I know nothing about this surgery, but I do know God will be with you and your surgeon. I pray you have a speedy recovery. Hugs, Suzanna
Hi Jan, when I first read your post, this bible verse came to my mind immediately -
"Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
My dear friend I asked for prayers when I was anxious about having the MRI and you know what - I felt complete calm and actually fell asleep in the machine. I know that prayer works and will definitely hold you in my prayers for a wonderful outcome for your Spinal surgery. I agree with the others front opening dresses or ones that you can put on easily and front closing Bras like Jerrilyn suggested. May God guide the Surgeon's hands and may you come out of the operation giving thanks to Him who is our Great Healer. Love always Chris
Dear Jan, you are in my thoughts and prayers. I've sent a PM. Hugs, Yoriko
OMG! I can only imagine what you must be gong through. My prayers are with you. Please let Christie and I know if we all can get together before she leaves again.
My thoughts and prayers are with you. Other cuties have already offered you better advice than I can. Please do let us know how you go with this.
Jan I'm adding you to my prayer list. You have already put your trust in the one who can help. He will! Just keep your faith! I see prayers answered all the time. God bless. You will do fine/Lillian
Jan, you've got this. God has already been there and paved the way for you. I'll pray especially for your anxiety. One of my friends had this and I had to run to the store and grab her some bras that fastened in the front. It made it much easier for her
He holds you in the palm of his hand. THAT close. I'll be praying.
Prayers for your comfort & recovery. Your are a very special lady & a blessing to many.
Prayers will accompany you. Other then that I am not much help. I know nothing about it. Praying for you now not to be anxious
Thanks so much, I am trying to relieve that anxiety. Trust in the Lord, and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. That is the best I can do on that verse, but that is what I need to do!
Jan, I know a lady that had this surgery about three years ago, and I was amazed at how well she was doing when I saw her two weeks after her surgery. She said she was quite sore for the first few days, and I believe she wore a support/brace to keep her head and spine aligned during the initial healing period. She made a statement that the surgery was not anywhere near the difficult procedure she had anticipated. She was just in awe of how such small an incision it took for the doctor to do it, so I doubt your swallowing will be affected more. Lifting and bending over is to be avoided for a while, I'm sure. I, personally, would prefer button up front tops, easier to slip on without as much movement, until soreness subsides.
I definitely will keep you in my prayers for a most successful surgery and fast recovery! If I can get more info from her, I will pass it on! Love you, my friend!! Big hugs!!
Angel
Thanks, Angel, That is so good to hear, and I'll pack some tops that have button fronts. I am very thankful that there is a surgery to fix my numb hands and balance problems, very blessed. I'm going to pack my bag today. Maybe with all the prayers, including mine, I can do this. Missing you! Hugs, Jan
