Computer hint: Make sure your pop-up blocker is turned on. If it is turned on and you still get pop-ups -- your computer may have a virus or malware on it. A call to your computer specialist would be a good idea.

Thank you for this advice. I keep seeing ads here. not sure if that is the same thing as popups though. It made me remember I have yet to install antispyware protection on my new laptop. I have nortons but that's it. I think you are supposed to have more than that from what I recall.

You should NOT have two active anti-virus programs running on your computer. They will fight for resources like teenagers over the family car. Your anti-virus program may have a banner blocker. That can be useful -- but then you will not get the notification on websites of special sales.
What you can do is occasionally use an online scanner that is not from the same company as your current anti-virus program. Also, I use manually run programs once a week or so like Malwarebytes.
This is different. Within your browser you will find a pop-up blocker. I have mine always on and make exceptions (one at a time) for programs or websites that I use that need pop-ups.
