My hubby had a nasty skin cancer removed from the side of his head earlier this month.

He went back to the hospital yesterday to have the staples removed from the skin graft they had to do. 36 plus staples. They have not photographed very well. They have come up as a double image of each one. He said having them removed was quite painful. After having to wear a full head bandage which looked like a white Motor Bike helmet for 2 weeks he now has only to wear a net over the dressings. He said it feels much more comfortable that the bandages.
It has been a long process as he was to have the operation in one hospital just before Christmas. He got as far as the theatre doors and when the Doctor came and shaved where he had to operate he did not like the look of it so referred him to another hospital with better facilities
. I have had to dress and put a bandage around his head every night because the wound was then like a open ulcer. He has gone through quite an ordeal poor man. He goes back to have the dressing taken off his thigh where the skin was taken for the graft in 2 weeks. These doctors are just so clever. I have not asked yet it the hair will grow over the graft or if he will have a large bald patch. He may have to go for a different hair style.

Bald is beautiful. Far better to look at than cancer. My best to you both/Lillian

I agree it is very painful to have them removed. I am thankful he is doing well Shirley & as are you. It is a trying time @ best. One thing I might mention now that he has had this surgery he might want to consider wearing a hat when he is out in the sun. I found & still do that the sun is particularly hot where my incision is. PS I had 47 staples so I do know how he feels. Also Dr.'s told me that my head may not be able to tell the water temperature as well as I did before. Something else to consider. My prayers for improvement every day ~hugs~

Very true. When I had a BCC removed from my nose I had to wear sun block and a large brimmed hat for 12 months. All that to protect my skin graft. Wasn't allowed to garden either.
