My grandmother passed on this week. I have been so very blessed because of her. She was the one that taught me to read patterns and she gave me the desire to sew. I learned so much from her! She taught me how to budget (as my father had already passed on) and she taught me to swim. She was the mother to me that my own mother could not be.

With her recent birthday -- she was nearly 100 years old -- she could not see much and could only sit in a wheelchair with assistance or be in bed. For the last year she has been in such pain..it was her time to go. I will miss her!
I wanted to tell all my friends here on Cute how thankful I am that she was there for me and that she instilled in me a desire to sew, bake, and create.

I have to find other peoples daughters to teach.
I had a Grandma Helen that gave me treats, defended me, paid me for chores and thankfully lived right next door to my Grandmother that just passed on. I was a teenager before I discovered she was not my relative at all.
I think she is part of the reason I am grandma to a few that are not blood relatives at all.
I am so glad you had your granny. I will miss my grandmother but I am so very thankful that she was always there for me.

My grandmother was also almost 100 when she passed on years ago, but she will always be a part of me, as she also gave me my love for sewing, embroidery, knitting and crocheting. And gardening.

Your memories will stay with you.

My prayers are with you.

I only wish I had wanted to learn to knit and crochet from her when I was young. I was quite the tomboy or on some days the feminist. I felt that was too "homemaker" for me to do.
I will cherish the memories. Thank you Chris

Oh ! :( Brings tears to my eyes. Prayers and hugs to you and ALL THAT knew and loved her. Your love will be forever strong for her !!!!!!!!!! One of my Grandmas lived to be 101 and the other Grandma was late 80' s and I lost them about 8 years ago and my Grandad , all three of them within 5 months of each other. It's like it was just last year. It is SO hard to see them suffer though ! :'( It's not nice as much as it's hard to lose them. Aren't we all just so LUCKY though to have family to love and that love us in return . Take care of yourselves .

So sorry for your loss and how fortunate you were to have her to instill the love of sewing. My great great grandmother taught my Mother and my Mother taught me, but I am afraid it will be lost after me as my daughter has no interest and neither of my granddaughters; however my Great great grandmother did pass her artistic talent down to my mother, my daughter and one on my Granddaughters , so not all will be lost. I am so sorry to read this, and understand what you are going through right now. I had a similar relationship with my own grandmother who died at 93. During the depression she learned to make patchwork quilts from the fabrics she "recycled" from clothes we had worn. She taught me to knit and crochet, getting me started in my life-long interest and love of creating beautiful things. Even though she passed more than 30 years ago, I still miss her terribly, and hardly a week goes by when I don't think of her. It is a comfort to know that they are no longer in pain, and all the wonderful memories help fill the void in our hearts. My deepest sympathies.
