In Germany you can buy these placemats in the 1-€- shop, or sometimes at a drugstore.

Just have been unable to find these mats at my closest Dollar stores. Very cute project and nice to have something like this to stitch on.

I like appliques too. We all have scrap fabric and they don't require as many stitches.
