I am so glad you had a good show. I am getting ready for one myself.
Gosh that is a late start for a Market. Most start in Queensland at 6am which means you need to be setting up about 5am,
Unless you are selling Farm fresh fruit and veg you don't get anyone looking until about 10am. You have no choice either be there from start to finish or you won't get a site.
Yes I know. I have been to one at Caboolture and at 6am it was packed. Most here in Sth Aust start about 9 and a few do start a little earlier.
City people sure do,they arrive a little before the end of the market & wonder why everyone has packed up.Last month a lady arrived at 12.50pm & complained that everyone was packing up, the market finishes at 1 pm .The hall needs to be swept & set up for a childrens play group which is on later.
Some people turn up before you even finish setting up, which at times is annoying.
Also what sells one market day, doesn't usually sells the next.
One market I go to starts at 8am but the real crowd appears about 10am for morning tea.
The same happened last Sunday. Our Market finished at 3 and about 2 minutes before people came in and wondered why people had almost finished packing up. Most of us had been there from 7am. A lot of people with short arms and long pockets.
Glad your sale turned out positive. I am always curious as your best sellers and for the benefit of the rest of us. Were they towels or craft items? Kay
It changes from Market to Market. I took a couple of items that I had made for Easter and sold them. I usually sell a few towels at each Market. Other than a few Owl Pendants, all of my items are fabric craft that I have made myself.
Way to go Lyn .Happy for you what sold well in the States??Hugs
It is impossible to predict how things will go - customers are contrary. Fortunately I only had one "bad" stall all last year and all the other sellers were in the same boat. Sometimes things start slowly were there other things on in the area?
I, for one, don't seem to be good at predicting what will or won't sell at a particular market and whether it is worth the price of the booth to even try. Or when the shopping will peak and will die out. My only sure market of the year is one that does not charge vendors for the booth - but it is poorly attended. I know whatever I sell is toward profit of replacing blanks! Some markets require you to stay till 3:00 or 4:00 p.m., but when people step over to the food vendors for an early lunch, BOOM, no more sales. I even heard of a market near Atlanta that lasts three days and if your booth is not full at the end of the last day, you are not invited back for another year! Go figure! I have made huge money in pouring down rain - people gathered under my tent and stayed to look at everything! And no money the next year on a pretty day.
I had a couple next to me selling Hot Chilli sauces and spices. I thought they were really busy but at the end of the Market I realised people were tasting and not buying.
Maybe!!!!!!!. We have daylight saving and since they have changed it to run for 6mths of the year, by the time March comes I seem to be sleeping in. Cannot wait until it is over. Living so close to the Queensland border it can be a nuisance when we have appointments in Qld. Our daughter lives in Brisbane and visits/phone calls etc. can also have problems. Hugs Marg
I think you are right Lyn, and it won't come soon enough for me. I'm over it.
Yes, 3rd April. I totally agree, a right pain in the 'you-know-where'! We are on the Western part of Sth Aust and already get an overdose of sunlight Versus Time. Happy sales for Easter Lyn. Going to selling scones/jam/cream myself at Easter. [for CWA]
