Had a weird thing happen yesterday. Kept having bumpy stitches. Reset bobbin. Replaced bobbin. Rethreaded upper thread. Replaced needle. Replaced bobbin case with my spare! Took apart and cleaned out bobbin case area and auto scissors area and oiled machine. Broke a needle. Broke another needle, which shattered and flew above my glasses, which were sliding down, and into my eye! Reconstructed the pieces and lined them up with a new needle to be sure I got all the pieces out of eye! Lessons learned: keep eyeglasses adjusted tight so they don't slide! Sometimes a whole package of needles is barely crooked and causes funny, bumpy stitches on the top side of fabric. Whew! It was a puzzle! (Eye is okay, just a bit red today.)

You are so lucky. That little incident could have cost you your sight. Please take care

Goodness! That seems to be more common than I thought about broken needles! I've been hit twice in the last year by a needle piece. The point still on the thread & the top part still in the machine, but a piece of the middle flew out. So glad you are ok! May I ask what brand needle it was?

By the way, I wear glasses too. Do we need safety glasses for sewing? :-)

It was Janome brand needles. First bad package in 30 to 40 packs of 5 used - not a bad record. I think it was a combination of disasters that caused it.

Mine was another brand. We cuties must be burning up those machines! It is scary, however.

I think some of us must have more than few guardian angels, to keep up with what happens in some of our lives- SOOO grateful this had a good outcome and how blessed we are when these situations turn out so well. Truly blessed!

That scared me to no end. I am so glad you did not get injured more. Never thought that a whole batch of needles could be bad. I will remember that forever.

Next time, I will try replacing the needle FIRST, and from a new packet!

Yes I agree sometimes it can be a whole packet. As my son only said the other day about a faulty part in his car that had a recall. All it takes is someone on the production line to have "Man Flu" and things get through not quite right. But isn't it nice that Humans still do some things.
Glad your eye is ok.
