Ok, I've searched for hours and tried adjusting tensions and NOTHING is changing! New to this hobby, so I'm sure there's something we're doing wrong but no clue what. Here is my scenario...

Got a Brother HE1 and tried a few projects with what we thought were no problems. This is because we were using the same embroidery thread on the bobbin instead of bobbin thread. So it all seemed fine. Then I realize we're supposed to be using bobbin thread (it came with a white spool), so we switched to that. Now, everything we stitch uses nothing but bobbin thread! And I believe it was always doing that. We just didn't notice because of using the same thread for the bobbin.

Viewing all the guides showing tension adjustments, doesn't apply. As I said, there is NO embroidery thread being used in our designs. ALL BOBBIN! It begins pulling some from the top when the stitch begins, then from then on, all bobbin. The design comes out completey white on front and back with no color whatsoever.

So, the bobbin thread is Brother #90 polyester embroidery bobbin thread.

The embroidery thread is Coats & Clark 40 wt. Trilobal Polyester.

The needle in the machine is the standard needle that it came with, and we have changed it out just in case.

We're testing on a light fabric with a tear away stabilizer.

If any other info is needed for a solution, let me know what. I'll try my best to include it. I don't know what else to try.

Thanks!

Congratulations morningside on finding out a solution to your problem. Tension can be such a tricky thing and I'm so glad I never have to touch mine. Welcome to Cute from me, Chris, Newcastle, Australia.

Well, I've began playing with it some more. I adjusted the bobbin tension all the way up, then backed it off maybe a quarter turn if that. And guess what? :D Hehe. I had adjusted it so much that I thought for sure the problem lied elsewhere but as it turns out, it seems to be tension related. I should have listened to all the people who know their stuff and kept playing with that.

Long story short, it looks to be good now. I'm now playing with the tensions and checking my designs in some testing to get the right balance. It's looking better. Thanx everyone! Now it's time to check out some designs...

As a rule: don't play with the bobbin tension once it's OK. Adjust the tension of the upper thread. Your manual will have instructions with pictures - I have had quite a few machines since I bought my first one in 1963 and ALL have illustrated instructions on this.

Yeah after i got that corrected i did just that; referred to the illustrations in the manual for upper tension and it's looking good. Problem with the manual in the beginning was that it didn't show my problem so i took it to be something else wrong.

Is the machine new? if not it may be damaged. The he1 is not a machine for production. At least that is what I was told. Call Brother at the headquarters in Tennessee. The number is in the support tab of the brother-usa website.

I've adjusted the tension both ways on both sides. The thread and the bobbin. It's a new machine, we just got it so I don't believe anything to be dirty? I have checked for threads inside the bobbin area. Everything seems to be in order. I don't know if there's a setting somewhere I'm missing or what. But as I've said, the embroidery thread won't move but a bit in the beginning, then from there, it's all bobbin! We're at a loss at this point. I can usually find my answer googling and searching youtube but not this time. :(

I was going to add a photo but as mentioned, it would just show what I'm describing. An all bobbin white design with no embroidery thread! :D

If finishes the design and the stitching looks fine. It's just all bobbin thread. My head hurts....

When I play with bobbin tension, I always put a little mark on the bobbin case to show me where the oringal tension was set. The upper tension is easier as you usually already have a scale for it. Sometimes the bobbin needst to be adjusted when you use different weight threads.

So sorry you are having problems. I do not know this machine. Have you got the upper thread, threaded properly? A picture would also be good but if it is not embroidering at all a picture is probably useless. There are some very experienced people on this site. Just hold tight and someone will help.
