3D Flower

I saw so may 3D flowers posted I could not resist digitising one.
They are now 100% (which was 96 mm), 75% and 50%, which I changed after testing to 100%, 80% and 60%.
I stitched the larger one after I had done the smaller ones in one hooping so I could adjust a few things. I widened the satin outline from 2mm to 2.7mm in order to reduce the 'pokies'; the smaller the design the more difficult to cut close to the outline. And I left out the stitched line along the outside; which I might put in again as it makes the petals flatter.

Thank you. I used cotton both front and back, a layer of wss ( the vilene type) is in between and I have not yet rinsed it out..

So pretty! I agree with Lillian - there are many decorative uses for this type of design. Excellent job with digitizing, as always.

Thank you, Lilian. I just went through my files and found a couple of others I made 3 years ago and filed under "decorations" - had forgotten all about them. One has 4 heart shaped petals. Don't remember stitching them myself, so I might do that one of these days.

Indeed a very beautiful flower with a lot of use. I thought to digitize a similar flower when i got my "Accuquilt machine" with the model "Sharon rose" to cut, but stacking the different sizes is a wonderful idea. Thank you very much for sharing. Amitiés de France.

Thank you. I have a Silhouette cutting machine, but so far I only cut paper. It might be useful to cut the flower shapes, that might be easier than cutting by hand while in the hoop.

They look great. Great on a gift or even if done with glittery fabrics on a nice evening jacket. I would make the smaller ones for the jacket but I think it might work.

Well, as one of the ladies who made the flowers I love your shapes on these ones. Personally I prefer the large orange one without the stitching just inside the petal's edges. You have done a great job they look really solid. Thank you for making these Martine, you are very talented! Love Chris

Great job,Martine.I don't digitize but had the same idea, after seeing all the ones on the recent postings. I was thinking of using my applique flowers I already had, stitching them on WSS and stacking the different sizes. I think that is the concept here.

That's exactly the way to do it, every applique flower would work. I used wss and fabric on top and bottom.

What an awesome flower....would love these in my garden......Martine, could these be done on organza or some sheer material as well?

I think so, as long as the applique fabric would be light as well - or you could just embroider them. I'll try it out tomorrow. I.ve got some net curtains that would be ideal for a try-out.

basketkase by basketkase 02 May 2016

Yes, that would be perfect.....anxious to see how it goes!!
