Morning All

Hope this is in the right place, I need help & advice again....I have been asked to embroider 4 hankies with bride & groom names & date. I know most of you have done this but I want to know what font & size you used & were they difficult to do, don't want to mess up the hankies as they were a bit pricey & I don't want to have to replace them Any help appreciated. TIA. Irene

Depending upon how much text you are planning on, you will need a very small font...Jolson has some lovely outline run stitch fonts as small as .5" (or about 12mm)...and like other Cuties have suggested...make sure you test stitch on a fabric similar to what the Hankies are made of...for the placement, that would depend upon how you were to arrange the text...one line, two lines, three lines, etc...I Googled "Embroidered Wedding Handkerchief Images" and there are lots of samples to look at...

I have to repeat what pea farm said as I think it is the most important key to success in embroidering small letters. Use 60wt (bobbin weight) thread in top and bottom. Also test, test, test on similar weight fabric. Good luck. Nan W

Irene, my biggest piece of advice is practice, practice, practice. You will need a very small font. Let us know how it goes. Good luck

I use bobbin thread on top and bottom when doing tiny text.

Thanks Pauline, I'll do that. Never done hankies before so want to do it right. LOL. What's the council approval for? I thought you had somewhere to go to. My Daughter & Grand daughter have moved from Guildford to Wyong, she decided it was for the best after SIL passed away last Sept. Hope she's right

I used a tear away ,wash away stabilizer and 70 wt thread . I gave the thread back to my dear friend as she could use it again . She wanted monograms on corner as the first corner had her monogram. It was to be an item passed down generation thing. I only hoop the stabilizer and stitch placement line for handkerchief and then lay the handkerchief down with a little spray Sonia Showalter has a free placement line for you to download. Kay

I have artista software and it lets me go very small (0.65"), but perhaps someone else will come along with something you can use. I do hoop a really good (reads more expensive) tear away so that none of the stitches are pulled when I'm finished.

I have a programme for lettering but the letters seem to be cramped together in the size I want, look good in a bigger size but I think it's too big for the hanky.

Forgot to say---use 60 wt. thread on the lettering--won't be so heavy looking and feeling.

Emblibrary has a new tutorial on embroidering on handkerchiefs. I have not watched it yet though.

Thanks, just downloaded the PDF. Is the 60wt thread embroidery thread or cotton thread please

mrskiki by mrskiki 06 May 2016
