Awesome Toogie--I finally posted mine albeit too short--not enough yarn--anyways, she is darling. I see now why you mentioned it being made in the back like an upsidedown 'T' I do like it that way--more fitted look to it. Precious.
I just looked at yours and it came out great. Because I lengthened the back and shaped it like the upside down T, it made her armholes large, so I had to put her a tie to help her keep it on. Until I see if she wears it, I won't make another...........
Well done Toogie. You didn't need to write your own pattern. Unless the wearer is not standard size. There are heaps of patterns around for that style of vest. (don't ask me where they are on the net as I am shockingly bad at finding things on the internet when I want them. I usually bookmark everything but didn't for that as I wouldn't wear it because I wear a backpack instead of carrying a purse or handbag.)
I searched and found some, but I'm not that great either when looking on the net.
I love it, your granddaughter is such a cute little model.
Great job, Toogie...I would say it is a big success! Your GD looks adorable in it, too!
They had been on an outing, so when they came by,I had to rush to get a photo before they went home.
Well I think it is stunning Toogie!!!
I love crochet, it is so much quicker than knitting.
Did you have a pattern or make it up as you went?
I have a friend who just had her first daughter and I would love to make this for her when she grows a bit.
Hugs n roses, Meganne
I pretty much made it up as I went. I may can look over my notes I took, when I could remember to jot down-lol-and make SOME sense out of it for you.....before it actually fits your friends daughter!-lol just kidding
I will try to make a written out pattern for you, but may be a week or so. I will have Avery for a bit starting tomorrow and I'm working on something for Nora, when I can, besides going to therapy twice a week...well you know LIFE!-lol- If you haven't heard from me in a week, please drop me a reminder in a PM- I do tend to forget or get side tracked...........
OH God bless you sweetie, that would be fantastic and so appreciated.
I've only just taken up crocheting again after a couple of years break and I figure it is good exercise to keep my Arthritic fingers moving though they cramped up pretty badly the first week. My left hand forefinger is bending away towards the other fingers and I am having the greatest difficulty guiding the wool towards the crochet hook as it keeps sliding off, but I will persevere. LOL!!!
I've already made one baby frock and halfway through the second one, my tension isn't as good as it used to be but it's making it look nice and lacy. :-)
Thanks again Toogie, I'll look forward to your notes.
hugs n roses, Meg
Meg, try a smaller hook if you want to get close to the proper tension/guage. I play with the sizes of the hooks. At present I am making a baby rug using a larger than recommended hook to make it lightweight and a softer feel.
I thought I left a comment on this earlier today, but I must have forgot to hit submit.........You nailed this, Toogie......great job, now you need to make one for you!
I'm afraid I wouldn't look nearly as good as this little doll. I still like your knitted one and I do want to thank you again for helping me....maybe I could take some online knitting classes, in my next life!-lol
Hey, Toogie, I am self taught and I taught myself left handed knitting even though I am right handed, it just felt more natural to me........your GD looks splendid in her new vest... I have done these circular ones in knit before and the way I did them was you could turn them upside down and get a different look, all you have to do is knit (crochet) on edge longer then the person has the option of wearing it short with a big shawl color or long with a shorter collar.......clear as mud, right?
This is fantastic for a vest. It took me a while to understand pic 3. I loved 1 and 2 and just got 3 (flat out unfolded). How you ever figured this out is beyond me. Your design skills are beyond great. This is wonderful for a little girl and matching for you would be precious.
Oh Smokey, not my idea. I saw basketkase's purple vest and asked her about the shape of the back. I had seen some on You Tube, but their backs were rectangle shape. Hers were knit while I had to crochet. I do like vest but probably won't make one for myself....
You did fantastic!!! Very Cute & unusual!!! I am thinking a vest for a 13 yr old GD made of material!!! Your pictures helped!!! Thanx for sharing with us!!! Hugs, Judy...
This style is very size adaptable, can you crochet? A fabric vest would be adorable too, so please do show us when you get it made. Who knows, after I see yours, I may make one too! I love how we all spark ideas in each other. Have a great day Judy-Toogie
Toogie, what a wonderful job you have done with this unusual vest. It is a super design, love the variegated colours. looks very classy. Will be great for your grand daughter and you also a matching pair. Sandra.
I will have to get lots more skeins for me! (lol)- Actually, Vicki/basketkase planted the idea in my head, with her beautiful knitted ones. Thanks for looking-Toogie
looks great unusual wondering how it would be for a doll we shall see...wendy
It's lovely, you did a great job. I'm sure she will love it. g
She is just like her mom, loves clothing and accessories, to really bling things up. She usually likes everything I make so she is easy to please, I would say, but we will see. I just hope I remember to snap a photo!
Very interesting shape. It looks adorable when folded the way it will go.
I may have to crochet her a tie on the front, to keep it on. An adult wouldn't have a problem but kids are so active.
Can't wait to see it on her. It looks really cute here.
Thanks Jerilyn, I hope it looks as cute on and it fits! I need her to come and try a bodice on for fitting and they are leaving Friday for about 4 days. They are going to an out of state wedding and then on to another state for couple more days. I want to get her fitted before they leave so I can sew while they're gone.😀
very interesting pattern, it looks very cute. I am wondering if it could be made into a sewing pattern?
The idea has been knitted and crocheted so why not sewn! Let us see what you come up with.
WOW! Well done Toogie, you've done an awesome job. I love crochet and this yarn will go well with any of your grand-daughter's clothing. Love Chris
I know Avery has some gray pants and Nora may have some too. That's what I was going to wear with one like this, gray slacks. - I usually crochet with a tiny cotton thread ball for doilies, not used to a yarn like this. Thanks-T
This is just adorable, I've never seen anything like this. Beautiful yarn. She will look like a angel in this.
Walmart yarn to match MY gray hair- lol- I wanted me a vest like Vicki/ basketkase's purple one. It's so pretty! But I said I'd try a small one first by crochet, since I'm no knitter😢 I think it would take too much yarn to go around me!
This is beautiful, Toogie--I have never seen a vest like this in crochet. I love it!
Patti, I looked on YouTube and saw a crochet pattern for an adults, sort of like this. Only thing she started with a rectangle and Vicki said her back ( the purple knitted vest) was an upside down T shape.
I am going to have to type something else in for YouTube on this vest. It is so interesting. I've seen the ones made out of fleece and oval but not for crochet. Wonder how much yarn for adult size 16. Just another of my dreaming--would I actually get to it??
