Thanks everyone for your comments but I think I will just have "to live without them" LOL. I'm sure I can, There are just too many generous people out there to have to worry about lost designs & I'd have to live to be a few hundred years old to use them all anyway & I can't see that happening, LOL

oh that's awful, hope there is a computer doctor that can help you. I had an external drive crashed once. And a computerlover was able to save my files from the external. Perhaps yours can be saved too....

I am very sorry for you.
It may be a warning for all of us who have become a bit lax in saving on CD, DVD, flash drives, external harddrive or in the cloud. Save at least once a week or have it set to automatic update.

I use Carbonite and have had to reload twice in the last 5 years. Happy to have it so i do not worry. It costs about $5 per month and updates automatically!

My heart goes out to you. Take you old computer to a store that does repairs and builds computers. They are amazing and are able and willing to spend the time to save everything they can. They also will build a desktop computer to your specifications. I know this idea is too late but from now on save your new designs to a thumb drive as well as putting the design into a folder in your computer. This way, you at least have a chance of having even the newest designs in case of disaster. My handsome hubby has also gifted me with a 2nd back up of Carbonite. Yes, even back ups can fail so try to have more than 1.

Yes, Irene we all are concerned with changes, as we do not adapt very quickly. Learning new skills is always hard, but be patient it will eventually sort out. As pacmp has said if you know some computer person they may be able to help you retrieve your patterns hopefully they will still be there. Good luck, hope it all works out ok. Sandra.

What a bummer...but perhaps the designs on your hard drive can still be recovered...perhaps Rescuer will come along and advise you of some options to rescue them...

Be sure to have a computer wiz try to pull them off your old computer. I thought I had forever lost my designs and I am very grateful that most designs were ultimately able to be saved due to the wiz who was very patient, to get them back out of my old computer. I had patiently held onto the old computer hoping for a person who may be able to get to those designs. Most "big box stores" just want to sell you a new computer and if it is not an easy task to retrieve them, they may give up easily. So if someone says they can't be saved, save the computer and check with a different computer wiz. Hoping you will get a similar end result as I did. Good luck learning your "new" computer and that it will be able to function well enough for you to do what you are needing. Pam

I am so sorry. Change is always hard and any new computer means change.

Oh my goodness, I feel you pain. It has happened to me, too. Thank goodness my DH bought me an external hard drive for my new computer. Good luck
