Not only a brilliant knitter but so quick too. This is a beautiful jersey. The yarn looks very like a wool I have used before called Rustica
Congratulations to her on her accomplishment. It's remarkable. This fun creative hobby will serve her well throughout her life.
I missed this somehow first time through. She can now start teaching knitting, as she's a pro. Fabulous!
What a wonderful job she has done. I would be proud also. I am a slow knitter, This would take me more than a week to do/Lillian
Lovely sweater, very nice work for a first one!
I like doing cables, but they do take time and careful counting of the rows. I do what my gran used to do, take a different colour yarn and weave it in, bringing it forward or backward every 2 or 4 rows. Use it always when knitting it the round anyway, to remember where the sides are.
What a beautiful sweater!!! I see why you are proud of her.
My goodness........she did a fabulous job......beautiful sweater......
I am so impressed with her efforts eleen. I have never been a great lover of doing cable. Only did it once and I haven't knitted for years since! This looks wonderful, no wonder you are so proud of her. Love Chris
Thank you I have to admit me neither. What I normally do is work the pattern out row by row and count the pattern rows with the help of matches and 2 boxes moving them from one to the other that way I know where to start. Showed her and then she worked out her own method. When the kids were babies/toddlers I used to do all their knitwear like my mom used to do for us. The only thing I dislike more that cables is fair isle as that is as cumbersome.
I hear ya Eleen. I tell you who does AMAZING Fair Isle is Sigrun from Iceland, her knitting is awesome!!! Love Chris
She has done extremely well, wonderful that she did attempt something new to her. Now there will be knitting all round for everyone in the family. Sandra.
Yes - I think what also helped was that she knitted with a thick (almost super chunky) wool. She still knits a bit stiff but the correct tension will come in time. Biggest lesson was - she can if she really wants too.
Oh my goodness! First that she came to you asking how to do it and then look at what a job she did. It is beautiful. I would love that to wear.
Yes we encourage the girls to spread their wings - but also knowing their limitations. She did a great job. Made a few errors and did not accept my help a few times which cost her dearly and then realized I tried to help. Guess I learned from the best and was exactly the same. I was fortunate that my mom was blessed with golden finger. She could do any and everything.
Quite excellent! She is to be bragged on! Now, on to the next one?
Thanks hope to show her shortly. She said that she hope to start on one of my machines shortly and will then post her own. Do not know if I should be glad or scared. As is I have very little of my own :) lol.
She has done a great job on this. this a wow!
Thank you - hope there is many to come - In my country it is no longer taught at school level so there is not many kids who even know what needles etc looks like. The other sad part is that good yarn and fabric are so expensive and it is cheaper to buy the imported Chinese items.
You have good reason to be proud of her. She did a great job with those cables. Also picking up the stitches for the collar and closure band. I predict that she will become a knitting addict.
Thank you - she actually said to tell that she knitted one and a half cardigan as she had to pull out numerous times. But she was persistent.
That's the only way to do a good job. I rip out if I need to whether it is smocking or crochet, sewing, etc so you can be proud of your job, in the end. Persistence pays off!
Wow...beautiful...no one would ever know that she had not done this type of knitting before...and in only a week....kudos!!
Yes I was surprised too. Her younger sister then also wanted to knit but I convinced her to only buy one ball of yarn and to start on a blanket. She has too many UFO's and I know she would not hold through. It is a week later and she only knitted one block 30 stitches ) we all have our talents - she is good at other things).
I am proud of her too! What an accomplishment and in such a short time! Tell her anyone would be proud to wear and she could make her some 'spending' money, if she decides to sell any, she is that good.
Thank you Toogie - I showed her all your responses and her eyes were all shinning
