Another fidget quilt for dementia patients. This one has even more different textures and hidden lumpy bits than the first one. The lime green zip is actually functional (to a pocket.)

As embarrassing as this is for me to admit my ignorance but could one of you kind ladies explain just how this quilt idea works for dementia patients. If I have understood correctly from the post below by lbrow (Lillian) these quilts are multi-faceted items that encourage sensual investigation by the patient. I hope that I have understood that correctly and if so, then what a brilliant concept.

Dementia patients tend to do things like shredding tissues. This is a more stimulating alternative!

This is great Sue. Wish I could get Ron to do something to occupy him. These work wonders in Nursing Homes here in the states. The Activities people like to have them for people they cannot get to come out of their rm. State regs say they have to do some activity with everyone so many times a week. They can take these into their RMS and get them to fiddle with them for a little while as they read to them or just get them to zip zippers or make noises or do lots with these. They are a Godsend/Lillian

What a great idea. And I love the name, fidget quilt. I have know many with dementia who could have kept busy for hours with one of these. And a great way to use scraps. I am going to tuck this away in my great ideas file.

Thanks Vicki - but it wasn't my idea! I only decided to make them with pieced blocks like this.

I just cannot keep up with you. Far too much time on your hands to my way of thinking! If you've got any time to spare an old man, there's one here who needs some help finishing the dolls house I'm building for Ann. that's not to mention all the embroidery that I haven't yet started in readiness for THAT time of the year. Grrrrrrrrr.
Very, very nice though Mrs. S.

Thank you - I have a very sadly neglected doll's house waiting for me to get round to sorting it out.

I am not a quilter but I think I could make one of these. Wasn't there a similar idea for babies at one time? Great job! Kay

This is a great idea. I am thinking of making them with a quit smoking theme. I like the zippered pocket and the texture in the middle. I need a list of possible activities to incorporate into a lap piece?

I've used buttons and cellophane between the layers. Different textured fabrics, lace and ribbon.

cfidl by cfidl 12 Aug 2016

what are the loops for? I have seen them on baby stuffies also.

spendlove by spendlove 12 Aug 2016

Fidgeting with!

I would get my fingers stuck. Like the chinese finger pull device.
