May I say "Please Explain". I do not know what Trace and Toile is and why is it so much better than tearaway? What does it look like and what is it made of? When it mentions Trace it makes me think of the paper we used to use to trace pictures when we were kids or later on tracing patterns. Don't mean to sound ignorant but you used to be able to buy what I call tracing paper on a roll in a Supermarket.
its like vylene, you have to cut it away, I found the embroidery cut away or tear away, perferated when do ith with satin stitch boarder, I use an old iron stood up and pass all the edges over and it melts the fine pieces not cut..wendy, this is a very old post
stock. Why don't you use water soluble stabiliser for ITH? You just trim it close to the stitching and use a damp cotton bud or similar to remove any remnant.
This post was put up in Aug 2016 so that special would be finished for sure.
I just tried to to buy Trace and Toile at the Wollongong NSW store but it is only available for $1.99 per metre. I rang the help line 1300 number to be told that this price is because some stores have too much and other stores do not so they are able to put their own prices on items. I was always of the understanding that prices were the same in every store. So we live and learn....2 phone calls saved my petrol and time. Surely every one who replied to your news do not all shop at the Newcastle store. Thanks for the information anyway.........Ann
Hi Ann, it is $1.99 per metre where I am too. I just purchase on a 30% off day which brings it to $1.40. It is still a bargain and I use it for all my pattern tracing too. Just remember not to iron it. You could also wait until they send you a 40% off voucher and save even more.
Thanks for your comments, it is still a cheap stabilizer at $1.99 and a metre wide. I will have to keep my wits about me in the future.............Ann
It isn't meant to be used as a stabiliser. I've used it to trace patterns but have noticed it isn't particularly stable. I think it would distort if stitching a design with any dense stitches.
Hello Wendy, Thankyou for sharing this, it's good to learn new ways with embroidery. Janette
Just tried trace and toile today for an in the hoop project and it worked great as a stabiliser but....don't put an iron on it, it just melts and sticks to the iron.
Welcome to the forum.
It also melts if you use it on anything that goes in the dryer!
Hi janjancobi...big welcome to Cute...thanks Sewmum1 for the information about the dryer...good to know that one should not use it for in-the-hoop stuffies...
We had Delphi and Ophelie (she was sick and off school) today. Trevor babysat the girls whilst I went to Italian lessons. When I came home at lunchtime I told the girls I wanted to go to Spotlight but they didn't want to come. So I dropped them off to their home - Amy was off work also due to herself being ill. There are a lot of bugs going around at the moment. Anyway, I got the Trace and Toile for 99c plus there was a 30% off one day sale, so I bought a whole lot of Lycra and a few other things. I had a great day! Love Chris
Oh thanks for that Wendy ! I use sooooo much as I make birthday cards. I always need hints as I see so many lucky people around the world that use great things that i just can't buy here. HOPE my spotlight has it ! Thanks again.
I use a product that is very similar that was purchased from JoAnn's Fabric in the US. It is lightweight, doesn't tear and is less expensive. Believe it is referred to as tracing interfacing or stabilizer or something similar and may be made by Pellon. Give it a try.
This product is new to me too. I will look for it--I love the width it comes in. Thanks for sharing your experience
Thanks for the heads up on the trace and toile. I've never heard of it, so I'll ask about it next time I'm there. Love Chris
Thank you for this information, i am going to get some and give it a go. Sandra.
This is just what i use. When i bought my first embroidery machine a few years ago i didnt have any 'proper' stabiliser. Shops were all closed and i was desperate to test out the machine and decided to use some of this i already had for tracing sewing patterns. Worked like a dream and have never looked back. I usually buy it in 10m rolls and being so wide it lasts a while if you only use it for embroidery.
Be careful though it can melt with a hot iron
Hi Wendy, thanks for this advice. Does it act like a tear-away when you have completed your design? I need to buy some tear-away and would appreciate your comment. cheers from South Aust.
it is not real tearaway, but you can tear it off if you hold your finger on the article and pull it off, you can get rid of the hairs left with a hot iron, I just leave an old one stood up and go around the edge by turning the emb. ...wendy
