How do you personally embroider bath towels?

Ive heard people mostly using cut away on the back and thin wss on top, but people also say that the towel loops will poke through after a while so they put tulle on top. And since cut away isnt pretty on the back side some use wss for that.
My new towels claim to get thicker and puffier with each wash so ill have to wait a bit anyway, but what do you find works best?

I do lots of towels. I put wash away in the hoop, I place the towel on the top of it. You can either pin it or baste the towel on the wash away. I then place a piece of Tulle and the wash away topper. after you are finished I tear away the wash away and the tulle around the design. The tulle keeps loops from poking out of any part of the design. Never have had a problem since I started using Tulle. Hope that helps! Suzanne

No hoop - pin instead. Tearaway beneath, 1-2 layers of WSS on top, slow down speed of machine. I like design to be 1" above band on a hand towel, closer to 2" above band on bath towel. I have a really great tearaway that tears easily.

I have an editing program called SewWhat Pro. It is a very good program and cost $$$$ less that most other programs. I does everything that the more expensive programs do. Customer service and help is excellent.

It has a feature called: Add Nap Tack Stitches...you open up your design then click on this feature and it adds the Nap tack stitches, which means it will stitch over the terry fabric loops and flatten them, then you do the design.
I don't hoop, I use WSS with adhesive on the bottom, pin and a layer of regular WSS on top. I also do a basting stitch around the hoop before starting the design.

Embroidery library has a whole section of embossed designs for embroidery to be placed on top. I just use wss on top of towels, tear away on the bottom. If you machine or embroidery software does not have a basting stitch, use your sewing machine. Remove the sewing foot and slide the hoop under , replace the foot and sew.

I hoop the towel with WSS and float tear-away beneath. (Don't like the remaining stabilizer with cut-away!) Either use bobbin thread which matches the color of the towel or the top thread to keep the reverse of the design a bit prettier.

I do not hoop my towels and use a simple tear away to pin the towel in place. I usually embroider a cross hatched background under a design, not unlike embossing, which keeps the loops stitched down permanently. But if I could not digitise I would probably use tulle or organza.

In the picture a logo (blue) where I added a background (colour matches the towel)
