Please take a look at the Brother machines at www.kenssewingcenter.com located in Alabama. I purchased a great sewing machine from them a few years ago for approx. $150.00, and it has stitched beautifully. Has many built in stitches. Has been a little workhorse. I love the Brother machines. My machine is outdated, but still working well. Ken's has one comparable to mine with more features, the CS6000I, marked down from $299 to $189. I believe shipping is free. Another one they have on sale at the moment, you may like better is the Brother XR9500PRW for $209. A nice bonus kit is included free with each of these machines, too. I am not affiliated in any way to Ken's, just a very satisfied customer. Ordered mine online, and got speedy delivery. Great warranty and customer service. Hope you will take a look.
Hugs, Angel
I'm not 100% sure but I think that this is where I bought this machine that I am considering replacing. It has bern some time ago and I don't have the paperwork anymore but I bought it online and this name sounds familiar but I had forgotten about them. The one for $209 sounds like what I am looking for and there is an additional bonus if purchased by tomorrow. Oh I hate to make these decisions.
I got a Singer pretty basic model for regular sewing on Amazon for less than $140 or so, and it was delivered to my door. (I love Amazon) It was on special and it has performed great for me. It has a very nice buttonhole stitch.
I picked up my regular Brother sewing machine at walmart for about $150.00. I wanted it that day. It does well enough.
Just out of curiosity how long have you had your machine and how much do you use it? When my machine comes back from the dealer anything that's been replaced is given to me so I can see whats replaced a there is a detailed written report of everything that's been done. I have saved these over the years but I think from conversations over the years they have a copy too. Cant be of any help with a sew only machine as I have my trusty Bernina which is now over 40 years old
I have had that machine about seven years, buying it after I had lost everything in a flood. It was my first embroidery machine but it was evident from the beginning that the 4x4 hoop wasn't going to be big enough so a couple years later I bought one that is just an embroidery machine with a 5x7 hoop. (Still not big enough, LOL) So the majority of the time that I have had that machine I only use it for regular sewing and that is mainly hemming, stitching together quilt blocks and stuff like that. It has only been in the shop one other time but I don't remember why.
I purchased a Brother for my gd 2 years ago. I thinks it was a NS55 electronic it was the one up from the base model sews beautifully and have had no problems with it. I was going to buy one for myself but was given a machine. Also we share feet when needed.
It looks like the NS55 is a machine sold mainly in Australia and costs around $600. Is this correct?
Could you ask Brother International what machine is similar to that one. I have 3 Brother machines and have had no problems with them.
I had my first Brother 3000 for ten years emb/stitching and the one I have now is 5 years old.
Wow, strange that you didn't have any problems with your machine except for the needle threader and then the technician found so many things wrong...if it was working when you took it in...how could so many things be "wrong" after he looked at it...perhaps he just wants to sell you a new machine!
That was my feeling as well. I haven't picked it up yet so it will be interesting to see what he charges me to tell me it isn't worth fixing. And I wonder if he put it back together in the same shape it was in when I took it there. Because it was working just fine for both the regular stitching and the embroidery stitching. I had just gotten tired of having to thread the needle manually every time I changed thread because I can't see that little eye anymore. All he has to do is leave a few screws out to render it worthless. The day I dropped it off there was another customer picking up an old Kenmore. She asked what he had done to the machine and he said it just needed to be cleaned and her bill came to $70. She would have been better off to get a can of Dust-off for 5 bucks. But if you don't know how to do it yourself you are at their mercy.
Oh yes, that should be a very interesting story...I hope you have the time to test it while you are there to see if it still works...if not, I would have a few words for that technician!
If you are happy with your Brother, I would probably stick with that brand. The feet and bobbins are interchangeable and no new learning curve. For sure go and test drive several different ones to see what feels good to you. Hugs. Nan W
I don't have a dealer near me and that is the problem with going to test drive different models. So I was hoping for some reviews on models others are happy with, or unhappy with.
My philosophy is why burn up the motor and parts on a $5,000 embroidery machine to do the work of a $300 sewing machine, so mine are two separate purchases. I bought a little Brother model about 3 years ago that can stitch through 4 layers of thick denim with ease. It is a delight.
Which model do you have? There are so many to choose from that I would like to have some guidance from someone who has actually used a machine for awhile and knows how it performs.
