Embroidery nuances.

Same design, same threads (3 different colours ok, I'll grant the darker green looks better in the photo), same WSS, same washout treatment.
Who would like to guess which one was embroidered using the very expensive Husqvarna Designer Diamond and which one was embroidered using the less expensive Elna Xquisit 2?
So, which is which? 😊

I think they are both great/Lillian

It doesn't show up as poorly in the photo as it is in reality Lillian. When you embroider a design for a gift you want it to be perfect and this is for my great niece so it has to be perfect, doesn't it. :-)

Christine, do you mean the problems with the needle thread breaking and nesting and missing stitches???
Probably over two years now and at least two services. The only sign of improvement has been since I increased the bobbin tension.
I've tried everything else!
I once spent over ten hours just sitting at the machine trying different things and solving nothing.
What mostly happens is that the machine just sits in the spare bedroom, unused and definitely unloved.
I had tension problems with my Brother Innovis 750D when I first got it but I solved those by experimenting with the bobbin tension and it stitches pretty nicely now.

Once you get the bobbin tension right it is easy then to make minor top thread tension adjustments when required for different threads.

Sorry Cuties, I was away all day bowling rep team.

For those who said number two was stitched by the Diamond, yes you are correct.

It is actually much worse than the picture shows as the white Madeira Rayon thread kept breaking during the stitch-out. The exact same spool of thread stitched without a single break on the Elna.

Still, it DID stitch better than previously as I had increased the bobbin tension, on the Diamond, to try and alleviate the missed stitches and top thread nesting.

It is really disappointing to pay so much money for a machine, expecting it to be brilliant, only to find it has a major design fault that causes problems the manufacturer is not willing to admit.

I spoke to the Husqvarna people about the ongoing problems with the skipped stitches and the needle thread jumping out of the take up lever but they just want to blame it on everything else:-
The thread is too old,
the thread is poor quality (I'm sure Madeira would be happy to know their thread is poor quality, NOT),
the thread is wound the wrong way on the reel.

WHAT????!!!!

I kid you not, that is what he said.

So did you know most of us are using threads all wound the wrong way on the reels???

Anyway I have achieved a slight improvement in my nesting and thread breaking problems by increasing the bobbin tension.

I am currently winding some of the white Madeira thread off the large spool onto a small reel so I can put the reel, directly on the machine, (in the horizontal position with the thread running the way it was recommended) and I will see if there is any improvement.

All I can say is thank heavens I have other machines I can use and I don't have to rely on the Diamond, but I do feel ripped off and comparing the two stitch-outs, especially in reality, I think anyone could see why.

hugs n roses and thanks for contributing. :-) M

Embroidery thread (or at least some brands) is twined in the opposit direction than sewing thread, but the spools are wound the same way. The user manual mentions just one way to place your spool on the horizontal spindle which works well for sewing thread, but might cause problems when using embroidery thread. So i tend to place spools of embroidery thread in the not-recommended position on my Ruby.

I use a stand for all my embroidery threads Martine as I figure it allows a greater distance for the thread to unkink.
But he actually picked up a mini spool, similar to the Robinson Anton spools, and said the thread was wound on the reel the wrong way, my immediate thought was ''HOGWASH!" LOL!! Because to use these, having the thread unwinding the way he said, the thread would be coming off the base of the spool and could get caught more easily than coming off the top.
The whole point in this exercise is showing that the Diamond must be super fussy as it plays up even when using Madeira and Robinson Anton yet the Elna Xquisit will stitch perfectly no matter what type or brand of thread I use or whether I place it vertically or horizontally on the machine or on a thread stand, and REALLY, shouldn't a person be correct in thinking they have a right to expect far more from a machine that cost over $10.5 K ? My Elna's both stitch way better than the Diamond so it is very disappointing.

I like them both but I think the Diamond did number 2

...and what's the answer?

I think the one toothpick is Elna because I love the way my Elna does embroidery. I never complained about the designs, only that all I could use was a 4 inch hoop.

Is the contest over. I think the 2 toothpick one is the Diamond.

I'm with Martine...number 2 is the Diamond!

You would never have asked if the Diamond did the better job, so that's easy, #2. I am amazed, my Ruby has never given me any issues, nor my Designer1 for that matter. I do, however, use the smallest hoop and when I do a batch in one hooping in a large one I use those anti-slip thingies to make sure the wss stays put. The hoops are a bit flimsier than I like.

My guess is 2 toothpicks is your diamond, I don't even use my husqvarna anymore for embroidery, just to frustrating. I recently spoke with one of their représentatives and he is totally disgusted with the company. He is waiting for his contract to expire and then will not sell anymore vikings. That says alot as he has been selling for over 20 years.

I have no idea I dont know the machines but I prefer the one next to the single toothpick

First of all congratulations on getting some sewing done. Knowing how much trouble you've had with the Diamond I'm guessing the one next to the 2 toothpicks is the one!! Love Chris

I'm guessing the toothpick (1) Left side not neatly done.....
I had a husqvana x changed it to a Janome......Huge difference!!

I'll guess the 2 toothpick design was done on the Diamond.because I never seem to be happy with any FSL done on my Diamond. This one is smaller & the edge is wobbley on one side.
