In australia we can get a prepaid visa card from the post office, this is very handy I only use it for the computer, and you can't put more than $1000 on it, I just top it up when used, it is a lot safer than a bank one....wendy
I have a special credit card with a small limit on it ,to use on the internet.A few years ago there was a item on it that didn't fit my purchase history & the cards fraud squad picked it up & stopped the card .They rang me & because the answering machine doesn't identify us by name they didn't leave a message but sent me a letter.I didn't know that they had a fraud squad. They weren't sure if it was a mistake or not but the card was cancelled & a new one was issued.
It was nice to know that they keep tabs on customers spending habits , so this kind of thing can be picked up quickly
I have got these phone calls asking to be connected to my computer. I just ask them what computer or what is a computer. Acting real dumb like I don't know what a computer is. They hang up real fast. It works every time.
That is not good. I would like to know who it is as to not fall into that hole. I usually use paypal, however recently I used my card twice. I wonder if they pursue violations of this kind. Way back when they would only pursue if the amount was over $100.000.
asking for the site name could severely damage their business. These people aren't guilty just because someone thinks they might be. I wouldn't want to be the one who named their site. Just use caution with your credit card purchases, a reputable card company will stand behind you
Sorry to hear this...hope you get it all straightened out soon!
Thank you for the heads up. Always good to know the latest scams. Also, if you get a call from Dell computer support about your computer showing issues... They'll ask you to let them log on to your Dell computer so they can fix the issue... Then they say you'll have to talk to their "supervisor" who tells you it's been hacked and in 15 minutes your computer will crash because unless you pay $250 NOW and they can fix it. Even though they have a Dell Support website that looks totally legitimate, they will hack your computer and make it useless if you allow them on your computer. Especially when you questions them and refuse to pay the $250 that they are pressuring you to pay! Apparently Dell got hacked and people got our serial numbers so they could sound "official." I was not thinking clearly when I left "Dell support" on my system and within minutes of them hanging up on me, I couldn't get my Wifi to work and the computer professionals could not fix it. I had to buy another computer the same day! Never again. So, we have the IRS scammers who will NEVER call you, there is a car scammer that will call and demand $500, Dell Support $250, please, please never give your information over the phone and never be pressured to pay or else. Happy Holidays!
Also one who claim to be" Microsoft pardners" and when you balk at purchasing the" license" they connect you to "Microsoft security department" who are VERY aggressive. I finally just hung up the pone and turned off my computer and took it immediately to our local computer shop. They checked it all out cleaned it up, reinstalled files & programs, etc. Told me they had had 3 others that day already and that the hackers drop a file on your computer that enables them to get control of it. I learned my lesson the hard way and am safe and protected now.
I get calls telling me there is a problem with "Windows" on my computer and they want to fix it for me. I ask, "What computer?" Them, "Don't you have a computer?" Me, "Don't you know?" Them, Hangup.
I have read a lot about using pay pal on here. But pay pal is not secure as you think. I have said before, my pay pal account was hacked earlier this year. They got my checking account number and charged 2 charges that month and set up a reoccurring charge for each month. I was able to stop them, but had to close out my checking account and I closed pay pal account.
....sorry to hear this, Kathy, but it is another reason not to give PayPal access your checking account...you can set up a PayPal account without giving them access to your checking account...you can also use a prepay amount kind of like would be on a gift card at PayPal and only put money in your account when you intend to make a purchase...
I think I like that idea. I am going to look into it. I am sure the gift card would work on ebay.
I'm going to check on the gift card idea that would be much better. Thank you.
Look for the lock symbol next to the web address in the banner when you go to a site. This shows that they have a "secure" web site. Hopefully, your credit card company took care of this for you? Hugs. Nan W
Always use PayPal.. is my moto if not available no purchase..
