As I stated before it is beautiful.
I want to do embroider blocks for a micro plush throw, not sure what fabric I will use, but I know it won't need a batting. Any suggestions?
What type of fabric did you use for the blocks that you put the applique on?
Thanks.
Blocks are 100% cotton. The appliques are some all cotton and some are cotton and polyester blend. Batting is polyester and backing 100% cotton. Received a 1st place blue ribbon on this yesterday at a Cultural Arts Craft Fair.. I believe for the micro p
That is quite a labor of love. I love everything about it. What a lucky little girl, Abby is.
wow, love the sunbonnet sue applique , must be lots of work but worth all your effort.

Great job. I know this took a lot of work and she will love it very much. Looks good to me.. Thanks for sharing. Mechille :)
Another couple questions...Are your sunbonnets a digitized applique SB or are the they cut and done the old way? If so, what stitch did you use around the outer edges? This is so pretty.
Cut and done the old way almost. I first put iron on backing and ironed on, then zig zagged over all the edges , arms, hands, dresses, aprons, bonnets , shoes were all seperate pieces . Patterns from old quilt block. Cut new patterns using cereal box cardboard. Each block was made then did the quilt sandwich and after all blocks were done. Put them all together. Her name I do not remember who those appl. fonts came from, someone here probably remembers and I'm not sure but the A and U sunbonnet applic./embroidery designs came either from J.J. or Oma
I need to make all the ones in between Nora and Caleb, and now there's Gus.....................
This is a beautiful labor of love and the older Abby gets the more she will treasure it. Good job Grandma. My grandkids never got quilts but all seven of my great grandkids have received one.
Lots of work but well worth it. You have made a beautiful quilt she will treasure forever.
Oh Lillian this is a wonderful Sun Bonnet quilt! So big too she will love it! ~hugs~
What a wonderful story Miss Lillian and the quilt has turned out beautifully. Abby will absolutely treasure it as you have made it for her and as all the others have it will be an heirloom for years to come. I love the idea of writing down where all the fabrics came from especially as the come from other family members. Love Chris
Thank you Chris. When other fmly members Heard I was doing the quilt for her they started bringing dresses, skirts, aprons telling me who they belonged to so I could use some of the fabric...
Between the soft colors, the sweet little girls, and the gingham, this is such a feminine little quilt. I'm so glad you remembered to label it for her. Whew! That was a lot of work.
She is a very, very girly little 5 yr. old. Nothing like her mom was at that age. Her mom was all Tom Boy and Abby is all tu tus, lace and ruffles. In her 3rd yr of dance now , yet her older bro is in to Base Ball and sports but has started playing piano. He did his 1st public solo last Sunday. Played Jesus Loves Me for all the church between SS. and Church Services. I just sat there and cried, had no idea he was going to do it. Thank you
That was a lot of work ! The quilt has become so beautiful and I'm quite sure: Abby will be thrilled.
Hugs, Angelika
Beautiful job, Lillian...and what a wonderful gift for your grand daughter to have as an heirloom she will surely cherish and pass on for generations to come...
Lucky Abby to receive such a gift. Something she can cherish for years to come
It is beautiful Lillian. I made one for my daughter when she was little and she is 44 now. She still has it but it is now in the best of shape. Of course it was not as beautiful as yours when it was new. You are a great quilt maker. Hugs, Gail
Beautiful!!!!Excellent work you have done!!!Love it
It is beautiful dear Lillian! You have wonderful talent and your family must find you to be the treasure we can all see here.
Hugs
Very pretty, That was a lot of work to make all those embroidered blocks for such a large quilt. I would write down the history of the fabric used in the blocks. That will make its special for her children. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for sharing. Very pleasant to watch. Great work.
This is truely wonderful - and you are simply the best!!! What a lot of work and Abby will just love it for her lifetime. Thank you for sharing. I wish I could do something similar - Have a great Sunday - Maria
This quilt is amazing! I love Sunbonnet Sue. My grandmother used to make them. The colors are just perfect for a little girl. This looks like she had a bed full of dolls.-lol-You are amazing too! How you had the time or energy, to accomplish this, is beyond me. I'm going to call Nora in to see it. What size are your blocks and your stripping between, do you remember?
12 & 1/2 x 12 & 1/2 Toogie. Strips in between 1 & 1/2. And border around would add 12" to width and 12" to length. It measures 91" X 102". Don't think you can tell by pics but each Sunbonnet has eyelet ruffle(white) on cuff of sleeve. Started out as just a Full size but her mom wanted it a queen since that is her bed size. I thought oh well she'll probably have a king size one day so went a head. Going to make pillow Shams to match still have enough of the pink with strawberry to do it. Fabric in this , some from some dresses from her other Great Grand mother and some from G. G. Grands all passed away now. Some from her mothers sewing when she was in 4-H and won ribbons for. I still had some scraps left from them. A lot of History to some of the scraps . Must write it all down for her Abby was moved upstairs to her own RM 2 yrs ago and picked out her RM color herself. Think pepto bismol, lol, she asked me the to make her a pink blanket (that is what she calls a quilt). You may remember I did one for her brother (Overall Sam) it's somewhere back in projects about 5 yrs ago. Anyway thank you for liking it it./Lillian
Lovely quilt. Don't be so hard on yourself. It's hard but we all do it. Just don't tell were the mistakes are. Great job.
Thank you for sharing. Happy Stitching!!!
What a terrific keepsake and surely to be handed down many generations!!
Lillian this is a real treasure for sure. Beautiful work. Hugs Lynn
This is a fabulous quit! I love seeing ME in partnership with quilting. Reminds me of a quilt my great aunt made when as a kid...and that was 70 years ago! I'm sure she'll treasure it as much as I treasured mine.
