I've corrected some of my color errors with a fine point Sharpie pen. I hate to sweat the little stuff. Just go slowly and carefully and it looks like you used the correct thread. I won't tell if you don't tell. LOL Otherwise, make a small wall hanging or pillow with it or stitch it onto a tote or save it for a quilt, and restitch a new design with all the "right" colors. Just don't fret, obviously we've all been there and done that. It's a great design. Your friends will love it no matter what.
I love the design Toogie. It's always hard for me to decide about color . Like Chris I like RA flesh color for skin tone/Lillian
I like the design.Like the other comments I think the skin colour needs to be a pinkish fawn ,a more realistic colour. The lip colour could be a more realistic shade .Pick out some suitable colours from your stash suitable for the lip colour .Look in a mirror .holding each one up to your face at a time to see what one looks the best.As for hair colour anything goes.
I personally would go towards a light tan as if they have a bit of a suntan. I normally use Robison Anton FLESH for skin number 2413 which has a slight pinkish/apricotish colour!! I just think the outline needs to be a tad darker. Good luck with it all, great job. Love Chris
At first glance I didn't see the arms or skin so think it need to be darker into a light brown. The lips try a dusty pink.
For skin tones I use Marathon 1039 col but as we know colours can look so different depending on the fabric colour.
In the jpg that I downloaded with the design, the skin was light grey. Maybe light brown would work as well for balancing the colors.
A great design for 3 sisters and I bet they will love it. If they don't embroider they won't have a clue that it is not perfect. If it is your test stitch out I 'd play with a couple of permanent sharpie markers and maybe some pink or tan dotted over the skin line will make it a little more realistic.
I think once you change the skin tones, the lip color would be fine. If not, a deeper rose for the lips would do. A light brown skin color would be good. Get it too dark and the hair would compete with it.
I like the design too, but i would'nt use black or skincolor, look at the black hair and imagine the skincolor black, that would be to harsh, i would use a darker tancolor, but thats just my opinion.
Hugs,
Gabi
Love the design. Can you share where you got it? I agree skin tone needs to be a tad bit darker, without the sheen perhaps. And also darker lips. I personally would not do black for skin. Hugs. Nan W
Could you suggest what you would use instead of black? The design info is stated above. Thanks-Toogie
BOWLDS-do you think the black would make it look too cartoon-ish? They are light skinned people, but this stitch out makes them look almost 'glow in the dark'.
I don't think I'd do black. I did something once and used a pink for the skin and it just disappeared into the background.
My two cents...skin tone needs to be darker...or black as Vicki suggests...also how about changing up the lip colors to be different too...more like vibrant lip colors?
I agree with everything you said. The lip color was chosen for the frosty pink they wore then, but I didn't like it the minute it started to stitch. Would a deep burgundy look better,as I think a bright red would be too much red for the middle sister? Tell me what you think, please.
Hmmm...have you thought about threading and running two colors together at the same time for more of a blend for the skin color? Might try a sample satin stitch and see what it looks like...even on your regular sewing machine for a test...also, perhaps just a little deeper pink or peach might be good for the lip color...
Lips darker and skin tone darker. Cute design.
Was uncertain of the lip color too, so thanks for mentioning it. Their skin is light is why I stayed light, but I agree it needs to be darker. I just don't have a 'just right' thread color.
I think, at least to me, that if you could change skin stitches to black except the lips.......the other colors are so vibrant that the skin washes out....beautiful design!
It is a gorgeous design! I value your opinion, I too, did consider using black. The colors for each sister are colors they favor. Thank you
How cute. I had the same struggle as you until I found Metttler 1761, flesh-colored leaning to pink, and Mettler 1760 flesh-colored leaning to tan.
I wouldn't judge your stitchout too harshly. But I get where you are coming from.
It does look bad, doesn't it. I will add the spools I used but it will have to be at the top. I can't add with yours.
I want to make them all alike, so this one is my test.
